Re: Media Wiki

The benefit of having documentation content in the EventGhost repository and built in to the application is that this will provide a snapshot of the documentation that matches the EventGhost version being used. As the application changes the documentation should change along with it. If you go to a ...

Re: Media Wiki

I like the idea of moving the tutorials to the wiki. It makes more sense to me than using a forum thread. I would be willing to add that content to the wiki but if the forum threads aren't deleted after the content is moved then it results in duplicate content. I can't delete the forum threads so I ...

Re: Media Wiki

Hi Dequi, I have added you to the wiki Usergroup so you now are able to edit the wiki! I added all the plugins from the Plugins page of the GitHub wiki to the Plugins page of the eventghost.org wiki. I realize this effort may be made pointless by future developments but I thought that having any uni...

Re: Media Wiki

What are the plans for the " List of Plugins " page of the wiki? The reason I ask is because I know you had recently started a conversation with Dequi about the plugin repository: https://github.com/dequi/eg-PluginDatabase/issues/1 I think it would be a good idea to make it clear whether it's worth ...

Re: Logos

https://www.arduino.cc/en/Trademark/CommunityLogo There isn't an Arduino specific plugin that I know of but many of the plugins can be used to interface with Arduino boards (Serial port, Network Event Sender/Receiver, Broadcaster, MQTT). The above logo has a Creative Commons license, as opposed to ...

Re: OK so here is the skinny

Yeah, that's surprising to me also if there's no way to have multiple folders. My understanding is that having too many files in a folder can have a negative impact on performance so it's not only a problem of limitations imposed by the hosting company. 6000 is not really so many but a popular forum...

Re: OK so here is the skinny

Thanks, I actually had written all but the first paragraph of that reply before you posted the emails. I'm currently using namecheap for my hosting. I originally started using them for domain registration only and was using a different company named MochaHost for hosting but I didn't like that compa...

Re: OK so here is the skinny

From what I've seen, and I haven't done any research on this for a few years, GoDaddy is more expensive than lesser-known options. People use them because they see the TV commercials with the celebrities but they don't stop to consider who is paying for those commercials, the customers! I'm not surp...

Re: Media Wiki

Sure, I'd be willing to take on that responsibility if that will be helpful to the EG project. I'm also quite happy to let someone else do it. The great thing about wikis is that everyone can contribute as much or little as they like without requiring special status. I see from the Active users list...

Re: Media Wiki

OK, I have merged the "Controlling your living room with EventGhost" and "X10 Remotes" content from the documentation so anyone else can feel free to edit those pages. Here's a useful tip for anyone who wants to monitor changes to the wiki: Use your favorite RSS reader to subscribe to the RSS feed f...

Re: Media Wiki

Oh wow! This is great news. Great work. The reason I first signed up for an account on this site five years ago was to try to edit that wiki and it's been very frustrating to me ever since that there was a "wiki" that actually nobody could edit even though it really needs some work. A major problem ...

Re: Something new

I had a browse through the ESP Easy source: https://github.com/letscontrolit/ESPEasy/tree/mega/src and it doesn't look terribly easy. Ideally the necessary changes could be merged into their project, otherwise it makes it a lot of work to keep synced with their development. That could be a tough sel...

Re: TCPEvents : A better Network Event Receiver/Sender plugi

I had it on my "to do" list to find that plugin and check if it's compatible with a different project of mine. He seems to have had the same idea of merging the two plugins into one but didn't add the extra data actions that miljbee did.

Re: Something new

MQTT brings more complexity. Yeah, I started with the idea of using MQTT in my system but at that time I found I didn't like adding the concepts of subscribing and publishing to topics and using brokers on top of EventGhost's event/payload paradigm. I wanted to be able to just say "send this event ...

Re: Something new

OK, that makes sense. Here's the queue library that goes along with EtherEvent, which has the ACK system: http://github.com/per1234/EtherEventQueue You also might consider using MQTT instead since apparently that is already incorporated in ESP Easy. I believe at some QoS levels there is an ACK syste...
