Found a new program to check indoor location.

Hey,

I've seen this topic often. It exists many different approaches to solving it but I believe I found a easy and reliable solution:

https://github.com/schollz/find

I won't write a lot of information here as you can easily find the documentation on git.

Code: Select all
url = 'http://ml.internalpositioning.com/location?group=GRPNAME&user=USERNAME'

is all you need to get information with a python script.

great idea. problem though. you would have to carry your phone on you at all times. Now I am going to open a dialog with the programmer and see if we can't get some code written for an esp wifi module. it's about the size of a dime and can run on 2 coin cells. and has an 80 mhz RISC processor with like 512K of ram. now that would be something i could carry with me at all times in my house in the form of a wrist band. or some kind of button or necklace. it's small enough roughly be 2 quarters and a dime in size.

working on a solution to that without being an android wearable (and doesn't cost 100+ USD)

Very interesting idea, but how accurate is it? I tried it in my smallish (68 m²) apartment, and couldn't produce accurate results. I might have done something wrong when setting it up, however...

I can't recall how accurate the developer says it is. But to my understanding it's pretty good. It works better if you have a lot of AP's close by. However - I have a large living room that's kinda divided up into two parts - I noticed it had troubles in there, because of no walls etc to divide them up. That's probably a very bad explanation but hope you understand.

ok so i have had a conversation with the developer. and he stated that the only way at the moment is to poll his webserver. and that the app updates every 2 seconds. so polling any faster than every 2 seconds would be pointless..

you will have to give me a week or so but i can jam something together for ya on this

Lots of updates. I should have a more updated version released soon. I have the API all hammered down. I have been working with the dev on using the ESP wifi modules as a means to use to track location. instead of having to make sure you have your phone with ya all the time. the wifi is small enough to possibly have fashioned into a bracelet or a pin something along those lines.

I have python running on the module. and have some really rough code done up for it. it doesn't have any web based menus as of yet to be able to access it to change settings but it's coming along.

I've been watching this thread with much interest. Have you made any more progress with this project? Are you still happy with the concept?

yup. works great.. i have been testing. and sorry it's taking a while. the key to this whole thing working properly is the more AP's that you can see the better so use you phone and do a wifi scan.

See i live in the mountains and the nearest neighbor is a ways away. so i have one AP listed.. well now i don't but you have to have i would say at least 5 for it work semi accurately. and i didn't want to have to go out and spend 60 bills for each ap and add a bunch of them.. + an AP is also not something that is easily hidden and does consume quite a bit of electric. and would only do one thing broadcast an SSID. so i used esp8266's with micropython on then and all they do is broadcast as an AP (well at the moment). i will also use them for data collection for things like temp humidity.. as well as IR receiver and transmitter. but at 3-4 dollars each.. and low power consumption (300 milliamps) i put one in each room. so it took me a while to get all of that together
