Re: XBMCRepeat XBMC plugin based on the official plugin

kricker pointed me this way as I'm having to re-setup my HTPC/XBMC system. I was able to very quickly add all my commands using this plugin, but I'm having problems with the ones contained in the "Actions\General" folder. Specifically the ContextMenu, Close, and PreviousMenu commands. Even though I have remote codes assigned to them, I get no response when using the remote buttons in XBMC. The basic stuff works fine, though. Any ideas on what I could be missing?

Edit: and of course, as soon as I post for help, I fix the problem. I had forgotten to enable it! All better now, thanks for the plugin.

Thanks for the positive comments.

Now has anybody tried to control a remote XBMC over the network with this new version of the plugin?

Yup and lovin it. Only just recieved my IRtrans unit on Friday and got it all set up today.

Using XBMCRepeat to control an Nvidia Ion box running xbmclive in my loungeroom. Eventghost is running on an always on HP winXPE thinclient which is hanging off the wall in a kitchen wardrobe. I'm using an IRtrans unit for receiving remotes and blasting to my amplifier and projector, but XBMC is controlled solely over the network using XBMCrepeat.

Just finished setting up morning alarm wakeup random music mode and next is a single key sleep mode with volume dimming.

Will let you know if I can think of any improvements but I'm pretty happy with it all right now.

Does XBMCrepeat only work when the XBMC server is on the default port (80)?

I tried using 192.168.2.103:82 (the IP and port of my xbmc webserver) but it doesn't work.

My plugin don't change the port right now, so it uses the default port.

But shouldn't be a problem to add it to the configuration, I'll try to add it soonish.

In the meantime you can change it manually in the __init__.py file in the XBMCRepeat directory:
Just look for self.xbmc.connect(ip=ip) almost at the end, and change it to self.xbmc.connect(ip=ip, port="82"), if you want it to use port 82.

For some reason, it's not working for me even with xbmc on the default port of 80.

The plugin starts w/ no errors, commands just don't seem to be making it through to xbmc.

If I use 127.0.0.1 it works fine but if I use the network IP address (192.168.2.103) it doesn't work. (both work if I do use either IP address to access the XBMC web interface through a browser)

My plugin uses the Event server not the webserver so the default port is 9777.

It looks like you need to enable Allow other computers to connect in Event server settings in the XBMC to be able to use the IP 192.168.2.103.

nm that last post. I thought this plugin was going through the HTTP xbmc server. I see it's running off the event server and that solved my issue.

Do you still need an option to be able to configure the port?

No, I don't think so. It is a configurable option in XBMC so it might not be a bad idea to add an option to change the port.

I will be adding it but it has a lower priority now that you don't need it. :)

Looks like GetCurrentlyPlaying is able to get the thumbnail of the currently playing media file, check the API here.
Code: Select all
GetCurrentlyPlaying([thumbFilename],[nothingPlayingFilename],[onlyIfChanged])
Also
Code: Select all
GetThumbFilename(album;location)
