Detect if Xbox 360 is on?

Post by therealbiglou » Tue Dec 31, 2013 7:43 pm

Is it possible with a plugin to detect if an Xbox 360 is turned on? I use one as a Media Center Receiver and would like to create events based on the 360 turning on or off. I would assume this would be done through the network and I do have my Xbox set with a static local IP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a difference between the xbox being ON and the Windows Media Center being ON and connected. I do use the ping plugin viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2318&start=15#p27483 and a modified Vista Media Center plugin viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5757 to know the difference. The pinging is easy to setup with the plugin. The other is a lot more complicated to setup, and probably not really what you need.

For the pinging:

For the media center you would have to follow the steps.

If you want the connected state but not setup of the plugin, you could use the function from the plugin in a script. It would take a little code modification.

Thanks for the tips. I had tried the ping plugin without any success but it seems it has been updated. I installed the updated script but I'm a bit confused on the initial setup "String to match". How do I find out what to put here?

I'm still having issues with this plugin. Do you happen to have input on how to get this working?

Thanks!

I was looking to do the same thing, know when my XBOX was on or off. What I found is that the XBOX doesn't respond to pings all of the time.
It seems (haven't fully tested this) if it's trying to connect to a media server it will respond to pings, otherwise it does not. Which for me because i don't stream media locally this is never the case so it hardly ever will respond to pings.

I'm not sure but I assumed that you would have to act like a windows media player and figure out how they are talking to each other and finding each other on the network to establish a network connection then replicate that.

If i'm way off, let me know.

Hi there,
I know this is an old post, but is there anyway around the xbox not responding to pings?
I just need to know when my xbox is on or off?
cheers
Paul.

As the OP, I too would still like to know if this is possible.
