Brand new to EventGhost - Turning on Samsung TV

For many years, I used a USB-UIRT with Girder to control various appliances. However, I never could get it to reliably turn on my Samsung TV. For whatever reason, Samsung TV's seem to cycle through multiple IR codes for each remote control button. So, pressing the Power button produces a different IR code each time the button is pressed.

Does EventGhost have builtin support for Samsung TVs? Ultimately, I'd like to have my PC turn on my Samsung TV when it boots up; plus controlling my media room air conditioner.

what is the model number of the TV???

I have not seen a Samsung TV that uses a rolling code. it could but the codes will usually only switch between 2 codes. EG will capture and transmit Samsung codes properly.

What kind of an IR receiver/blaster are you using?

Samsung TV's are very fickle animals. so there is more then a single way to accomplish this task. I am going to check and see if anyone has get working solution to sending in commands to the newer TV's

It's possible I dont remember correctly... and, remote codes would flip-flop back and forth between 2 codes for each button.... NOT, cycling through >2 codes per button. Anyway, I'm looking for the easiest possible way to get EventGhost to power on/OFF my Samsung TV.

I actually need to order an IR blaster/receiver. What's the best choice for EventGhost these days for Win10 64vbit? I only have experience with the Jon's USB-UIRT.

I'll order the IR blaster as soon as I know which one to get. Thanks again for your help @kgschlosser!

For win 10 I think I would look at a flirc receiver and remote. I can't say for sure that there is a flirc plugin but the keyboard plugin should capture events. There are some limitations and caveats that come with using the keyboard plugin (I don't think your keystrokes are seen by windows if they are assigned to a macro) so you might want to read up in those.
MCE functionality breaks more with each update it seems to me. You can also go with a generic RF remote and use generic HID to capture keypresses to your log.

OK so here ya go. How about this. We can control the TV Using it's built in Wifi Card. There is only a single thing that you cannot do using network control. and that is power the TV on. I know that sucks. but Samsung had the brilliant idea of turning the network card (wifi or wired) off when the TV is put into standby.

The reason why it took me a while to respond is I just wrote the plugin that allows you to control it.

Now as far as the Power On problem. You will still need to blast an ir code to the TV. Because I have one of these TV's I have located a code that works bypassing the flip flop code issue.

My suggestion to you is to get this receiver/blaster It works perfect and has 0 issues. it can read and blast the 48 bit Samsung codes without a problem.

There is one for sale on ebay for $10.00 USD and $5.00 shipping brand new
But if you do not want to get it from ebay and would rather a company then Tiger Direct has one for $25.00 USD and $3.00 shipping.

It comes with a remote and receiver/blasters yes blasters plural it can blast 2 different devices.

You are only going to need it for the Power On. You will use the MCE Remote Vista+ Plugin to control the blasting of the Power On code. The plugin i wrote does all of the rest.

Use the USBUIRT plugin. Discreet on/off codes work on all three of my Samsung TVs 2010-2017 models.

Well then that does it. You don't need a thing. Use the hardware you have with the power on code that George posted. And the plugin for the Samsung TV and away you go.

Thanks a lot for all the info guys. I'm ready to start. I have a few more questions:

1. Which IR receiver/blaster can I use that doesnt require installing a windows service or dll? I'd prefer a device that I can use that only needs a Windows 10 64bit driver only.

2. Is there a command-line utility I can use to send the below IR codes to the IR device directly? I vaguely remember using one before with my old USB-UIRT. I was able to send IR codes to the device using a simple Windows batch file. Ultimately, all I need is: ON-TV.cmd and OFF-TV.cmd.

Okay, I got it setup. However, my MCE IR device didn't come with IR emitters. I just ordered a couple generic IR extenders from Amazon.
I was at least able to test IR code learning.. which works fine.

I have a couple of questions...

1. So, how do I trigger the two actions I created below via command-line or batch file? I know in Girder, all I had to do was specify the action name to execute in a simple command line syntax. Ultimately, all I really want to do is have a batch file called "SamsungTV-ON.cmd" and "SamsungTV-OFF.cmd". I really want to keep this as simple and minimal as possible.

2. I'm looking for an IR "blaster" (not extender) with a 3.5mm jack that can blast the IR signals similar to my remote controls. I really can't have cables running along my TV and appliances since I can't completely hide them. All I coul

Ok you want to do something like what I have.

I use micro controllers to handle all of my IR receiving and blasting.

It's network attached via either wifi or wired ethernet. no USB connection. no blaster eyes. it can shoot IR 35 feet. requires no windows drivers and no services.

It's more of an advanced thing to set up. But are wicked cheap. around 10.00 USD

Or you can get a globalcache ir blaster that can blast the IR. but i believe they need an eye and they only blast no receiving. Those are somewhere around 120.00USD

I do not know (nor have i looked) for a receiver with a blaster that uses serial data. i know of receivers that do. but they do not have blasters.
I do not know of a single blaster that does not use an eye. except for the ones i make.

FYI you can build your own emitters using an old headphone cord with plug on the end (stereo or mono doesn't matter) and an ir led (can be removed from an old remote)

that is all the emitter is.

You can also buy an amplifier that can be plugged in instead of the standard emitter.

if you want to simply run a program like a batch file you would use the Run an Application action.

I totally forgot! My old USB-UIRT had a builtin blaster right in the IR receiver. It actually worked pretty well. It looks like EventGhost supports the USB-UIRT anyway.

I think maybe you didn't understand what I was asking about command-line capability. I want to be able to do something like:

(Where SamsungTV-ON is the name of the Action I created in EventGhost) Which is why I posted the picture above to show the actions I created.

If I remember correctly, the USB-UIRT has a command-line utility to send text proto codes directly to the USB-UIRT driver.
