I'm trying to get this plugin to work, but I just can't.
I've enabled the plugin, but not a single macro of it works.
The log just says;

Joystick.Button5
VLC media player: Fast Rewind
Couldn't connect to VLC.

When I first tried the macro my Firewall (Comodo) alerted that the program Eventghost wanted to connect to the internet, which I enabled. So, what could be wrong?

With my PC there is one interesting thing - EG doesn't connect to VLC if uTorrent is running. Don't know why :)
If I turn off uTorrent - it starts working again...

On that specific PC uTorrent randomizes port on each start. Port change for VLC does not fix the problem...
Could it be somehow related to maximum connection count in windows? Anyways it does not make any big problem - I just added a "kill torrent" to VLC launch macro...

EG version: 0.3.6.1434
Windows-XP-5.1.2600-SP2
VLC 0.8.6h

There is a small bug in the VLC plugin handling the 'previous' playlist item event.

line 81 of plugins\VLC\__init__.py
('Previous Playlist Item', 'Jump backward to the previous playlist item', 'previous')

should send VLC the command 'prev' instead of 'previous'

(natural bug since prev is the ONLY command abbreviated!)

THANKS!

I can't get this to work with VLC..

I have the following settings in VLC (per the plugin saying enable the RC interface):

Plugin settings:

Image

But when I try a command I get:

"Couldn't connect to VLC." and "error: uncaptured python exception, closing channel <Plugin.VLC.VLC_Session connected at 0x3511918> (<type 'exceptions.UnicodeDecodeError'>:'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xff in position 10: unexpected code byte [asyncore.pyc|read|68] [asyncore.pyc|handle_read_event|388] [asynchat.pyc|handle_read|137] [C:\Program Files\EventGhost\plugins\VLC\__init__.py|found_terminator|146] [C:\Program Files\EventGhost\plugins\VLC\__init__.py|ValueUpdate|189] [encodings\utf_8.pyc|decode|16])" in the log.

Any ideas? Thanks

I am trying to use this VLC plugin, but every time I try to send a command i get the following error:

error: uncaptured python exception, closing channel
<pluginImport.VLC.VLC_Session connected at 0x3a40788>
(<type 'exceptions.UnicodeDecodeError'>:
'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xff in position 10:
unexpected code byte [asyncore.pyc|read|68] [asyncore.pyc|handle_read_event|390] [asynchat.pyc|handle_read|137]
[C:\Program Files\EventGhost\plugins\VLC\__init__.py|found_terminator|149]
[C:\Program Files\EventGhost\plugins\VLC\__init__.py|ValueUpdate|191]
[encodings\utf_8.pyc|decode|16])

Is there some configuration option I can change in my encoding scheme somewhere to avoid this, or is this a bug?

Thanks for your help.

You have started VLC with the wrong command line arguments.
The latest beta includes a "Start" action, that should make it easier.

Oh, just wanted to mention, that VLC 0.9.6 always crashes on close here if the RC interface is used. This is nothing EG could prevent. It even happens if EG was not started at all. Somebody should open a bug ticket for that at VLC.

I get the exact same error!! Have tried launching VLC on my own w/ command line options and using "Start VLC." I've tried different port settings.

Using latest VLC 0.9.8a, and EventGhost 0.3.6.1487, and not running any other network apps. Also, VLC does still crash w/ the rc setting. But EventGhost won't work with it at all though.

I have some good news. It seems like the crashing issue has finally been fixed in the latest VLC nightlies.

0.9.8a still crashes but atleast http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win ... 0315-0215/ seems to work.

Great news folks! VLC 0.9.9 has been released, and the RC interface works! Simply go to Tools > Preferences, choose "All" in the bottom left-hand corner. Then choose "Interface" on the left-hand panel, and inside it choose "Main Interfaces". Checkmark the box that says "Remote control interface". Then, under "Main Interfaces", go down to the one that says "RC". Check the box that says "Do not open a DOS command box interface". In the textbox underneath, type in "localhost:1234", then click save. You may have to close VLC and open it again for the changes to work. I realize my explanation is quite confusing, so attached are two screenshots showing what I have changed.

No more VLC 0.8.6 for me! :D

PS: if you were having the fullscreen issue with dual monitors, that also has been fixed, along with the crashing on exit if the RC interface was enabled.

- Corey :)
