Adesso RC-1100 Remote Control (For MediaPortal)

This .XML file is from a working HTPC install.

The following software was installed:
Windows XP Pro (SP3)
MediaPortal v1.0 - www.team-mediaportal.com
Message Plugin v1.0 - www.team-mediaportal.com/files/Download/Plugins/Input/MessagePlugin/
EventGhost v0.3.7 r1194 - www.eventghost.org

Installation:

Install Message Plugin
- Install the MessagePlugin.dll, and MessagePlugin.xml into MediaPortal as per. its directions.
I didn't use the *.hip file.

Install EventGhost and then load this .XML config file.

Programming Notes:

The remote has 2 HID parts and also a Keyboard part. I had to load 2 Generic HID Plugins (one for each part)
and the Keyboard Plugin in EG to get every key on the remote to display something.

The 2 HID parts have the same name. Its a weird symbol (looks like the symbol for pi).
But, using the Prefix option, I can see which part is being used.

Since Play/Pause seem to read as the same key, I setup a dual "State Toggle" macro in EG for them.

The "i" key works ... you just have to press it twice (once to get the cursor to appear, once for the menu).
This mirrors the operation of a real mouse in MP (but slightly moving the mouse first gets the cursor to
appear, so then you only right click once).

I had to setup switching so that my MP Keyboard reassignments were only in effect while running
MediaPortal. This is want I wanted anyway ... for everything to work like normal when not in MP.
I think it's because I had to modify the Keyboard device. I occasionally exit out of MP
(to config. something) and need the keyboard to work normally.

The .jpg is just there to show you some of the tricks to get the remote to work properly
(in case you have to start from scratch for some reason).

General Notes:

When I went looking for an IR remote for MediaPortal, I found the old eHome (XP MCE2005 compatible)
remotes were hard to find. While this remote works perfectly in Vista and Windows7 with the newer
Microsoft Media Center (without EventGhost), it doesn't seem to be compatible with the older
XP Media Center Edition 2005 (or plugins for those types of remotes). I think maybe the protocol
changed on the newer versions.

You can currently get this remote for under $25us at www.NewEgg.com.

It seems this remote has also been re-badged as ORTek VRC-1100, Hama MCE, and others.

Please remember, I just learned how to use EventGhost (but this seems to work pretty good for me).
I hope this helps someone. Good luck and see you in the forums.
