gfw.hegel you are a genius! or I'm a silly bunt. That did the trick, changed "speakers" to "modiotek" and now Bob's your uncle!

It is changing the volume on another audio device for me related to my remote. specifically a Modiotek USB Headset - usb wireless remote with a headset jack on the bottom that I use that is interfering with everything I guess, but it is a great remote and it worked fine until this issue cropped up.

Hi there monkeexyz. I am having the same issue, but my primary is the analog side of the Realtek soundcard. My current workaround is to change to volume at the application level using the XBMC2 plugin. The problems started some time in the past 2-3 weeks.
