Thank you, CHeitkamp. It worked. I don't know if I used it the way it was intended, but here is what I did: I assigned a button to invoke Get battery level, then pressed that button. After that I went to help->Python Shell and executed eg.result. It returned "5", which seems to be right.

I've posted a new version of the plugin here .
It is not fully compatible to the older versions and sniff mode support is still missing.
