It sounds extremely complicated and error prone...but...I am wondering how all the other guys do it, they must have the same problem...very strange.

Biff and Supersevereid please try the attached version as it seems to work, I don't remember changing anything JSON-RPC related other then the config dialog. But something changed.

Very strange, sorry, I am not able to provide a better explanation, hope the screen shot will help.

Is there a way I could always automatically hide the OSD when starting / unpause a video? So e.g. the video is opened (and paused), I press play and the OSD then shall disappear automatically.

The beauty with EventGhost is that its so flexible so you can do a lot of things with it, but as a result everything is generic and the user needs to specifically tell EventGhost how stuff is going to work.

You need to use the events you get when a window gets in focus to activate/deactivate the folders containing the macros. Like "Task.Activated.foobar200" and "Task.Activated.XBMC".
