Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

Solution: start EG unelevated, as a normal user. A double click on the .egplugin file is then recognised in EG and a dialog prompts to confirm the installation. Once OK'ed, the files are indeed created in the ProgramData folder and one can add the plugin. (Nice move to rename the plugin so that it ...

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

Hi Sem;colon,

I have tried installing the plugin, but failed. I am running EG with full admin privileges and have double clicked on the .egplugin file while EG was running, but nothing has happened. I understand that the plugin should be extracted to programdata\eventghost\plugins , but this ...

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

In the BIOS, there are no related settings.

Note that resuming from standby normally works. The failure only randomly occurs. I have not been able to identify any cause because even if we do only the same (watch TV), the behaviour is not identical. But then again I have not recorded all actions ...

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

A brief update: yesterday, the events were not forwarded anymore to EventGhost following a resume from sleep. Contrary to my findings from several weeks ago, this time the problem could be resolved by restarting the alternate service.

Hmm.

The USB power settings have now been reset to prevent ...

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

On my HTPC EventGhost would sometimes not capture IR codes following a resume from sleep. I do not use a blaster.

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

Thanks again for all of you help on testing on this.

It's a pleasure that I can give back to the community.

Restarting the service i would imagine would fix the issue.

I tried that a few weeks ago when events did not arrive in EventGhost following a resume. Then, it did not help re-starting ...

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

As far as I am concerned, there is no urgency. Since I reinstalled the alternate service and reconfigured the USB power settings so that Windows cannot turn the devices off to save power, I did not have any problems anymore after a resume; the remote control always worked.

The fact that after ...

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

Good morning :-)

In order to conclude the investigation, I have reconfigured all USB devices and hubs in the device manager so that Windows can turn them off to save power and rebooted the HTPC. I then unplugged the eHome receiver and the corresponding entries shown in usbdeview remained present ...

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

The alternate MCE service still does not reconnect after the receiver is plugged back in and a reboot is required.

To complete our investigation, I will change the power settings on the USB devices to allow that Windows can turn them off in order to save power. Let's see what happens then, if the ...

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

Hello again ;-) My apologies for the late reply.

This is really a nice utility, it is very interesting what it reveals about each USB device. No USB stick ever connected to the system seems to be forgotten...

For the eHome receiver, three devices show up in the list and when I unplug the receiver ...

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

Thanks for this detailed writeup. The utility sounds quite interesting, I had not heard of it before.

So far, there have not been any problems when resuming the HTPC from sleep. Too bad that I have made two independent changes within two days, the reinstallation of the alternative service and ...

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

I have now un- and re-installed the alternative MCE service and have started EventGhost as administrator. I'll keep you posted how the system behaves.

As a side note: the HTPC was running with EventGhost under Windows 10 and the alternative MCE service since Windows 10 came out last year. I can't ...

Re: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista and newer

Thank you for the quick response. Let me give you a more detailed overview of my system first, in which there is no ATI video card installed, although it was in the past.

The HTPC is custom built based on an ASUS P8 H67-M PRO which sports an Intel i3-2125 with an HD 3000 integrated graphics card ...
