I have installed the original MCE plugin + the new vista one.

I add the macro and in the config of that macro i click on the test

am i doing right until now ?

btw my blaster doesnt flash or anything

Edit:
when trying to uninstall the service i get this message:
MCE_Vista: Connect started
MCE_Vista: MceIr pipe is not available, app doesn't seem to be running
Will continue to try to connect to MceIr
Message = The system cannot find the file specified.

Service successfully uninstalled

and when trying to install it back on it says "Service successfully installed"

The only thing that looks wrong is you've got the original plugin and the new one both installed. You should uninstall the original one and just use the new one. With the MceRemote_Vista install, do remote button presses from the Mce Remote show up in the log?

BTW, the plugin is trying to connect to the service. When the service is not installed, it can't which is why you get the "cannot find the file specified" error. That's expected. You should get a message about "connected" when you re-install.

are you using the latest version of eventGhost, for me this was the problem.

do you have a second machine where you can do a clean install with no other plugins so you can go through the process step by step without having to worry about conflicts?

I never installed previous versions of the service, it's the first time i use it since i am using an admin user and UAC is off (i hate that shit).

I will pull my laptop and try it anyways. i Installed the last version from the download page.

Edit:

bret says you were lucky to fix this problem did you understand his explanation, i want to check if i didn't "get lucky" :)
thanks.

Use the MceRemote_Vista configuration to uninstall and re-install the service (this will make sure uninstalling the old plugin didn't replace the registry keys). Then reboot, just to make sure. Then see if the ir signals show up in the log. If not, please post back with the contents of the log.

i uninstalled the service - and restarted the computer. I then installed the service and restarted.
now this is my log
---> Welcome to EventGhost <---
Autostart
Plugin: Microsoft MCE Remote - Vista/Win7
MCE_Vista: thread started
MCE_Vista: Connect started
Main.OnInit
Main.OnInitAfterBoot

when pressing on the MCE remote i can see the receiver is responding but nothing shows in the log.

Ok, it looks like it is connected to the service, but something in the service isn't working. Can you open the eventLogViewer from control panel and see if there are any messages from AlternateMceIrService in the applications EventLog?

It would probably help if you restarted the service first, so the log messages are recent (you can do from the services tab of the task manager).

Did you reboot the laptop after you installed the service? The usb receiver will install drivers when first plugged in that respond to the remote. Installing the service from EG changes the registry so Windows doesn't respond to the remote codes, but windows will keep responding until you reboot.

That's matches what you are seeing.

I rebooted and it's the same the remote is handled by windows and not by the EG (i can't see the commands in the log)

how can check the registry ?

I don't see anything special about the service in the event viewer, there was a few errors from earlier today, but that was before I installed everything correctly.

to be clear. the only plugin the should be installed is the new MCE_vista plugin. ? (just making sure)

Edit-2

now i played with the laptop and rebooted and installed and uninstalled the service. now windows doesn't handles the IR commands. but EG still doesn't show the commands in the log.

I'm sorry it isn't working for you, and I appreciate your patience.

The attached zip files include debug versions of the service exe, which output state changes as events to the MS logs. I'd appreciate it if you could uninstall the normal service, then overwrite the exe's with these versions, then restart the service. Then go to the application event log, filter for AlternateMceIrService, and export the log to text and PM it to me.

Thanks,
