Hello.
I've got a MacBook Pro running BootCamp and want to setup my Remote in XP with EventGhost 0.3.6.1094.
Selecting Generic HID allows me to choose the IR Receiver option and use the remote, but only half the buttons work (prev/next/play) whilst the other half don't (vol up/vol down/menu).
EG identifies the working buttons as 2/3/4, implying that the others are 1/5/6.
Does anyone know how I can get the remaining buttons to work?
Thanks,
Peter

Apple MacBook Remote
Re: Apple MacBook Remote
There is only one device showing up?
Maybe the other buttons will work as normal keyboard presses. So try the Keyboard plugin in addition.
You could also try to set the "raw data event" option in the configuration dialog.
The numbers of the buttons are not necessarily continuous. My gamepad also has a gap.

Re: Apple MacBook Remote
For Generic HID I get three items:
- Touchpad
- Apple Internal Keyboard
- IR Receiver
Only the bottom one responds when I use the receiver.
If I also add the Keyboard plugin, I also get keyboard events for the working three buttons, but nothing for the other three buttons.
(I coloured each different button press to show the differences)
Does that mean that there's no meaningful data to use, or just that I need to figure out how to get the other buttons to produce something understandable?
Thanks.

When I select the raw data option, I get this:20:28:30 HID.Button.2
20:28:30 Keyboard.MediaPrevTrack
20:28:31 HID.Button.3
20:28:31 Keyboard.MediaNextTrack

20:28:32 Keyboard.MediaPlayPause

So the working buttons seem to be sending 10/8/4 whilst the non working ones only send zeros.20:34:14 Plugin: HID: Apple Computer, Inc. IR Receiver

Re: Apple MacBook Remote
If the remote sends the same code for releasing all buttons and pressing button X i don't know a way to distinguish between them.
I wonder how apple does this.

Re: Apple MacBook Remote
Did you try disabling the HID service under XP? It tends to capture some HID keys, especially the volume controls, before other software like Eventghost can get them. Definitely worth a quick try.
Also FYI, I've had the same problem with the "synchronize" button on my diNovo keyboard. All other HID interface buttons return a code, and then 0 to show they were released. That button always just sends the 0.
Not sure how they detect it either or why, in their infinite wisdom, they decided to make one button tougher to capture and program than the other ones right next to it. =)
This problem existed even when I was using Girder, so I don't think it's an Eventghost thing, just mentioning the similarity.

Re: Apple MacBook Remote
Thanks for the suggestion.
Disabled the "HID Input Service", but it made no difference - EG still doesn't detect the buttons and gets the same raw data.

Hello,
I don't know if this will be of any help, but have you tried changing the apple ir device's drivers in device manager? A user on XBMC forums said that the boot camp drivers for windows take over the remote for basic use with iTunes. Right click on Apple IR in device manager, and update driver, then choose browse, or I will choose driver to install. There should be a list with apple drivers, and generic usb input (or similar), choose that. Basically what that does is changes the apple ir to use generic drivers, which in turn disables the built in functions for the boot camp drivers. Then in eventghost you should be able to do your set up just as you have, where you choose generic hid device for the plugin, choose the apple device, and check raw input data. The only issue I've found for my aluminum apple remote, is that both the play/pause button, and the center button act as the same button for some reason. :-\
I have a hackintosh system I am in the middle of building. I created a usb Apple ir receiver pulled from a MacBook pro. I'm sorry my explanation is very vague but its late, im tired, and don't really remember everything off the top of my head, but hopefully this is enough to point you in the right direction. if you need better details I can give it another shot in the morning lol.
good luck
