it's a google nexus 6, it's running really close to the most recent version of android i am sure, and i am pretty sure since before ICS you have been able to do that, but i could be mistaken.

no worries tho i am just hopeful that the problem is solved. i know of the aggrivation with that crappy modem they try and pawn off on people.

I've had Cisco router up since Monday morning.
At 4:07am (Wed morning) my phone "left home" (lost wifi)

Could a congested channel be my issue at 4:00am?
There is an an app "wifi analyzer" I can install on my phone
and see Which channel has the least congestion and set my
Router to that.. To keep my phone AT HOME
When I'm at home. I did disable the wifi hotspot that Comcast
Automatically is set to enabled

something has to be causing it like a running app on the phone or a power save feature on the phone if the battery gets low.

at this point i would start looking at the phone and apps installed on it.

if it was able to run for that many days without incident then there has to be something stopping the connection..

was the battery low?

you are riding on a completely different frequency now. i thought you have it connected via 5ghz??

try disabling the 2.4 on the phone and only allow it to use the 5

there is also a feature where the phone will automatically switch between cell data and different paired WiFi networks. turn that off. i am not sure how it does it's calculation for speed to choose the fastest one. or if there is a lapse in the connection for a second it will automatically disconnect the WiFi. i know that has caused me gobs of grief in the past.

do you have anything on the phone like Tasker?? that automatically switches on and off the wifi of the phone based on your location?? because if ya do there is also what is called GPS drift and it would shut off the WiFi on ya if that occurs.

i am trying to think without having the device in front of me or the modem either.

the modem shouldn't be the issue at this point. that's a static setup at this point and nothing should be changing on it. so that leaves the phone to be the cause.

does your wife's phone have the same problem? and if so what settings/apps are the same between the phones..

and if not what settings/apps are different and that is where you would want to investigate.

and i would be more concerned with the 2.4ghz causing a problem more so than the 5. but i do not know the area that you live in.

but at 5ghz you also have far less range than at 2.4 so depending on location of the modem in the home, and walls, things of that nature.

anything that could be running in the home that you set the phone down next to at night??

with EventGhost you can turn on the log times and see if the times when this happens is at or about the same time of day. if it is that's an indicator as well..

and you cannot forget that Comcast does update firmware in the middle of the night as well and sometimes they reboot the modem. that doesn't happen all that often, but i always know because i get a bunch of log entries about it and it's different days and times for every area of the country.

and it is a newer modem and they don't usually update them before they ship them it's done by the network and takes some times to propigate usually day or 2. so that sounds about right also.


so my thought is turn off that automatic network switching on the phone and give it a little more time and keep note of when it happens or if it still happens.

and when it does it look into the running programs on the phone and maybe write it down, and on the days when it doesn't occur do the same then you can compare the 2 and see what could be running that might cause this.

there is so much garbage on phones now a days that comes preinstalled that does all kinds of crap.

i finally went and get a OnePlus unbranded phone and the company doesn't advertise and you have to be invited to purchase one.

but my last phone from at&t was the note 4 and it had over 70 apps from at&t installed had all the memory used up and was trying to sell me things when i turned it on for the first time.

i said enough is enough.

the OnePlus has almost identical specs as the Note 5 (the screen resolution isn't as high as the note 5 but i think 1920x1280 on a 5" screen is just fine) and only cost me little over 300 bought and paid for.

and after first boot i was only using maybe 1/8th of the memory and the note was using 100% of it.

so there could be something on that device causing the problem.

good job at finding that hotspot setting on the modem. i don't believe others should be able to use what i pay for to access anything. you would think that Comcast would do something kind like if you leave it on the modem rental is free.

nope they want to have another sales pitch at the cost of the customer.

also turn off QOS is you can. because if you have any streaming media players in the home it will automatically throttle the connection for others and have the media player take priority. that could also cause a problem. (typically if you have that automatic network swap feature turned on in the phone)

i forgot to ask. does the phone reconnect to the network??

and is the network available when you wake up in the morning??

My Nexus 6 is Running Marshmallow and it is rooted. Not sure what is ment by ICS

My download speed on my Laptop connected to my network via wifi is 14.44
My download speed on my desktop connected directly to my Cisco router Cat5 is 65.45
Yours is 172.27 That's a huge difference


I could be wrong... but I really don't think it my phone. Ive had the same Problem with wifi dropping off for a few seconds
and then my phone will reconnect to my wifi.. Ive had this problem with my with My Razor M , Samsung S5, and my Nexus 6,
and My wifes phone now (my thought is it is Comcast Internet or My favorite app "Tasker" My battery was charging and was at approx. 80% at 4:00am.

My losing wifi happens at random even with Arris...I would be good for 3 days then on 4th day I'll loose wifi 5 times in 24hrs then good for a day and so on.

If I disable 2.4 I'm not sure if my wife's phone will connect to the 5Ghz ...is it possible that the channel is to congested I could mabye pick a different channel...and should I change my ssid. I've heard Some devices don't like the dash in the ssid HOME-1234

My Tasker does not use GPS for location im useing wifi for at home

I find it interesting you mentioned that Comcast does updates in middle of the night but my issuses happen at any hour

Yes my phone automatically reconnects to wifi it's just a drop in my service for mabye 10 seconds

There is what Comcast calls a filter.... before my splitter .... After my splitter to HDTV and Cisco. From Cisco to desktop via Cat5

I don't know if it's Windows 8 but when my wife is on Facebook I notice the chat window looses connection
Also when you goto Google "sometimes" I get a window that shows internet connection lost .... I'll snip the page next time it happens..and no... This is not when I leave home

now I know what the problem is.

either you have to many splitters or you have a bad splitter or the filter is no good.

you are on the fine line for the modem being able to report back to Comcast (i had the exact same problem) mine turned out to be a splitting a split signal

but from having a conversation with one of the techs that was at my house, the tech doesn't have the ability to test the outgoing only the incoming and the "head" end is the only place that can see the modems outgoing. he was on the phone with them at the time he was trying to activate the modem when the problem actually occurred because the head end told him there was something wrong with the modem.

and it's actually an intermittent problem and you have to be on the phone with them right when it happens while they are looking at it, because if it's not they see the signal is within bounds.

and are you sure there is only the one splitter?? sometimes people bury them in the walls of their house.

if it's an older home and you are not the original owner the only sure fire way of knowing is to run a new wire. i ended up doing so in my house and afterwards i removed all the old wiring and i found 5 other splitters throughout the home.

but what's odd is you say the connection hunting is turned off on the phone, did you just now do that??

you said that EG couldn't ping during this outage. and if the internet was the case then you would still be able to ping the phone. only if that feature on the phone is turned off because as soon as the phone is unable to connect to the internet it will jump connections. and then back again when the internet is back up.

otherwise you have completely exhausted my knowledge as far as phone to wifi xfinity connections

without being there to look at settings it becomes very hard to troubleshoot. it's not something i deal with on a day to do. i went through all this over a year ago and had to run through the process, but i can't remember what i have for device settings

Did you mention something about a box outside my house

My coax cable comes from telephone pole to a connector
Through my house to the splitter. There is no box anywhere
I will look in the floor Joyce for a second splitter

I'm not sure how to disable the connection hunting so it could be on

I got rid of the ping stuff on EG cause I was still leaving home during a ping so I can't answer part ... I could rewrite it though if this would help ?

it has got to be a service related issue, either wiring related from the modem out to the telephone pole. again if the house is older you may not have rg6 run from the pole to the modem it could be an older wire, all this new equipment is very sensitive to noise. technically you own the wire from the pole to the house and from there to the modem so you may have to pay for comcast to come out and replace it. unless you have that wiring insurance from them. occasionally you get a really good technician. took me about 15 times of having them out before we found the problem, and my house was a whole brand new rewire i had them do that as soon as i bought the home and moved in. because i know and there was still a problem after.

the only thing left at this point is to just have the drop replaced (the wire from the pole to the house) and have the wire in the house replaced. i do not know what else to tell ya, this is all the things i did to remove the problems of the intermittent drop outs

If that fails... I wonder if I could send a message (autoremote) from my phone to eventghost when I arrive at home. Have EG send a message to my phone "you are now home

When I leave home send another message to EG

Have the messages triger my Tasker

there is an easier way.


egigeozone is an app for the android platform. it has an eventghost plugin.

you have to install the network receiver in eventghost


this is a nice app because it's dedicated to just geofencing. it also supports multiple fences. and you can specify a device name and also include the date time, and well as a fenc name and others.

i helped the guy who made it code out the bits for the eventghost side of things.

because it has the ability to set a name to the device it's installed on you can have it do wonderful things....

as such (this is what i have it doing)

at 7000 ft away if i enter the zone, it will send the command to my house and i have it turn my heat up
and at 1000 feet away i have it power up some other doo dads.

and at 50 feet i have it turn on the lights (that is of couse provided it's night time)

that's if i am entering each zone.

if i leave the 1000 foot zone it will shutdown the house.

now. this is all contingent on if my wife is home or not.

if she is home and it's night time, it will only turn on the outside lights.

and if she is home and i am leaving it will shut off only the outside lighs

and so on and so forth.

i did set up a backup just in case the battery on the phone is dead i managed to trackdown a homelink receiver that i could connect to my system..

ya know the little buttons usually on the mirror of the car or the sun visor.

i can use those to turn on the lights and what have you

i can even unlock my doors with the thing (provided it knows i am not at home already (just in case someone broke into the car and hit the button) so if it sees my phone inside the house the button in the car don't work.... or do they?!??!?! LOL i can key out a code to open the house just in case i locked my keys in the house

i have looked at tasker to do the same but it requires the purchase of other plugins and the app it's self, and has far to many things i would never use. kinda overkill for me.

but the egigeozone is purpose built to send text message upon entering and leaving as well as turn on and off the bluetooth or the wifi on the phone.

you can send location data to a website (business use i guess for location tracking)

the only thing with it is if you want it to be super accurate it would have to poll the snot out of the gps, and that chews up alot on the phone battery so by default it just uses google location services. and if you phone bounces towers so does your location..

if you know how to work around that then you wouldn't need the high accuracy.

i leave it on high and my battery lasts more than a day and that's all i need it to do i charge it almost every night.

and with the battery saving you get from forgetting that you have your bt on and you are at home or leaving the wifi on when you are not home or not at work it compensates.

(This app looks like Auto Location to me. Auto-location doesn't always work right...At least for me)

I downloaded the app to my phone.. It does look really nice ... I'm looking for the EG plugin in the app. I haven't found it yet ..but i just downloaded it..

I wish i knew how to install the network receiver in event ghost. (i don't quite remeber how i installed Autoremote)

So far from what I've seen in this app.. I "think" it might be compatible with Tasker (profiles for more actions) but I'm not sure yet

Well... I got the app working .. This is an awesome app and it is compatable with Tasker!!!!
I'm not sure if I would need EG for any thing with this app but would love to learn how it's used for this app I'm guessing it's for home automatation?

home automation, child monitoring, spouse monitoring, business use for seeing where your employees go

it can send messages to a variety of ways letting whomever know that the phone has left an area or has entered an area.

so for a child, if you don't want them more than a mile from the house you can set a perimeter and if the phone leave that perimeter it will send a text message to the parent.

it's not for real time tracking per say. but you can include the lat and lon in the message that is sent along with the time it took place

if you search the play store for "egigeozone eventghost" it should find the plugin that will allow egigeozone to directly talk to eventghost

and to install the network receiver is easy, the hard part is going into the modem and setting up port forwarding to the computer that is running eventghost

and if you want to make sure that you won't have a dynamically issued IP address problem (on the wan side of things) you would have to subscribe to a dynamic dns site that way you would have a user friendly name for you house that you can connect to from anywhere. so if comcast does something that the address on the modem changes it will automatically repoint the friendly name to the new number

something like setting up the fencing and eventghost is alittle more complicated and i wouldn't want to try and type out all the steps from memory, if you get a program like teamviewer and i can remote desktop in i could set it up in about 5 minutes

well barring the phone side of things but that's the simple part really.

Team viewer is awesome .. I've had it installed on my laptop
For about 7 mths. I use it alot from my phone while I'm at work to do things. I'm open to letting you remote in but we would have to set something up... I wanna learn .. Hangouts is like live texting... If you wanted to use that .. Im not giving passwords here for the world to see...
