Problem with Config-file

Ok, so now I started Eventghost (-debug) with the nonworking config-file and the Tellstick Duo pluginfolder removed.
Well Eventghost acctually didnt start,it just said that there were problems and that it was logged in the log.file

Hmm, I'm running Eventghost in WMvare, and I just realized that when I go back to my last working config I actually take the whole EG-installation back to february. That means that I have an older version of the Tellstick Duo plugin. That might explain the Tellstick Duo-errors...

But this last log file was from my latest WMvare-snapshot, som my guess is that there might not be any problem with Tellstick Duo.
(But if I use my old config-file in my newest WMvare snapshot, then there is a Tellstick Duo problem, because the config-file version doesn't match the plugin-version...)

well i did happen i look at the tell stick duo plugins. since inception. and it appears the bits that are throwing the errors have remained a constant through the different versions.


well since you are running EG on a VM. then this is what i am going to have you do next.


on a fresh image go and install EG and install all current releases of the plugins. and then we will try you config file and see what happens. since it is a VM that brings in a whole other set of issues in it's self. could be a corrupted image could be something wrong with the usb redirect. who knows at that point. some problems are solved easiest by starting over. i can help you with this and provide you with the means to add the macros back in one at a time. so the impact from a "fresh start" will be minimal. running EG in a VM is great for testing purposes but i am not a big fan of using it for the main running copy unless you have constant snapshots because things like power outages can cause image corruption problems.

this is a PM i got from the author of the TellstickDuo plugin. and this is what he sees as a possible problem as well


First of all, the user (bongolf) seems not to use my latest version of the plugin. In line 308, I do not have code referring to this error

Secondly, it seems he also has a possible conflict between plugins. He has added both the TellStickDuo and the TellStick plugin.

Both are using the same usb device and loading the same library. I do not say it will not work but it is not a supported configuration. If there is something (a bug) with the loaded library, then it is a vendor specific issue that needs to be addressed & reported to Telldus (I will do if it can be verified)

And one more, there are so many, many users using the TellStickDuo plugin. An error related to the plugin would most likely already have generated many more bug-reports

Not saying the plugin is perfect, no software is bug-free, so it could very well be something newly discovered. But I have nothing to trace...especially since the error from the log is pointing to a line that is not traceable.

To start: see to that bongolf is using the latest version of the TellStickDuo plugin and that he is deleting the TellStick plugin from his configuration

give me a day to separate all of the macros for ya into individual files so you can copy and paste them into your tree.

actually. i am not going to do that. i am going to teach you how to do it in the off chance something like this happens again you know what to do and how to do it. i will write a python script to parse the file for ya and it will create a series of files one for each macro. and then you can copy and paste the file right into your tree. it will be nice to have a utility like this as well. and i can have it also check for the null characters and skip that macro if one exists.

give me some time to make this script up.
