Controlling Vista Media Center

I feel like this has to have been addressed somewhere, but I'm having trouble finding anything about it. In short, I want to figure out how I can control VMC if I've disabled Vista's HID service.

Long story: I wanted to take control of my buttons on my Gyration Air Music Remote (disable the default handler). I discovered that I could do so for three of the bottommost buttons by disabling the Vista HID service. Unfortunately, this also had the effect of causing many buttons to stop working in Media Center. So:

1) Is there a non-"keypress emulator" way to get those VMC actions working again?

2) If not, I guess I'm stuck using keypress emulator and the "Enable exclusive folder" method. This would prevent accidental button presses from screwing up other programs if they're focused. I have installed the plugin for "Task Create/Switch Events". However, I don't see any events when the Media Center window becomes focused. Should I? If so, how?

Please disregard my question. I thought I'd installed the latest version of EventGhost, but after checking again, I discovered that I hadn't. The latest version recognizes when I switch tasks to VMC.

This program is fantastic!
