jonib,
the plugin seems to be fine... I'm still playing with it. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is since there are so many options, many of hte same button need to be mapped several times. Is there a way to "link" buttons in the plug-in?

also, you might want to start a new thread for your plugin, I think it will become popular :)
setup... XBMC, W7MC for DVR & Live OTA TV, JRMC for multi-zone audio, EG, MiCasaVerde Vera3, USB-UIRT IR receiver, Harmony remote, 5.2 home theater system

Can you give an example? I map all remote buttons and some actions that are not available on the remote like shutdownmenu, you don't actually have to map all actions :) just because they are there.

Need more information how and why do you want to "link" buttons?

Oh, I get it... so only map the 'Remote' section and then use other sections on an "as needed" basis?

I think that works best, as the remote buttons are context sensitive in XBMC, defined in the Keymap.xml config file.

I have been using your plug-in for a while now and one thing I have noticed is a 'delayed response' vs using the other plug-ins. Not sure why this would be, I understand you used the other as a base. But it is definitely there.

To use your plug-in I updated to the latest EG, not sure if that caused the issue (I've seen many bugs when updating to never EG versions in the past).

Do you have any delays?

Any thoughts?

Do you get the 'delayed response' with a action or button or both?
And could you elaborate what kind of 'delayed response'?

Could you try the original XBMC plugin to see if you get the same delay? you should be able to have both plugins active at the same time provided that they are in different directories, but only activate actions from one plugin at a time.
Do you have any delays?
The code for the actions is the same as the original plugin only difference is that I have more actions and they are in folders, but I don't think that should create any delays.
The code for the buttons is a bit different but still there should not be any delays introduced.
Any thoughts?
I tested the response on my XBOX with XBMC and with my plugin with the same remote control, and they felt very much the same (testing only subjective).
Edit: I'm using EventGhost 0.3.7.r851

I'm kinda new to EventGhost so I can't guarantee my code is not introducing any delays but I don't see how other than if EventGhost has a problem with many actions.

jonib,

Fantastic work. I think it's big improvement over the original and providing all possible commands is great.

I find that scroll speed in XBMC is better than the original, but not as good as in say XBMC on XBOX. I think that's a function of the MCE remote plugin and the repeat time of 15ms. If you go below that you get double presses which is not good. Even with EventServer repeat down to 5ms it's not that fast, but better than the original plugin.

The only problem I've found is around the DVD menu (ie showvideomenu) and when its on screen. If you map up/down/left/right to be StepForward/StepBackward/BigStepForward as per the default behaviour under XBMC on XBOX, then you end up Stepping the menu video all over the place and it's unusable. The original Plugin had this issue in a much worse way such that navigating the OSD Menu and have the Step commands mapped caused both actions to occur resulting in very annoying behaviour. This is at least limited to the DVD menu.

I wonder if this can be solved this via some context in keymap.xml perhaps, but I'm not sure. Keymap has the following context.

<FullscreenVideo>
<remote>
<left>StepBack</left>
<right>StepForward</right>
<up>BigStepForward</up>
<down>BigStepBack</down>
<back>SmallStepBack</back>
<menu>OSD</menu>
<start>OSD</start>
<info>Info</info>
<enter>AspectRatio</enter>
<select>AspectRatio</select>
</remote>

I wonder if there's a context for showvideomenu???

I'll do some more digging.

Are you using the actions directly? I think it works better to map most buttons from the "Remote" folder and then complement any actions that are missing, this would work like using the remote on the XBMC for the XBOX.

I'm mapping the direction keys in remote and then in "Actions only available in fullscreen video" to the step actions. If you don't do this, those actions don't work.

Perhaps I can map the direction keys to the step actions in keymap.xml instead of duplicating them in eventghost and that might work. I'll give it a whirl later.

My xml attached.

Cheers and thanks

The direction buttons in the "remote" folder should work, I'll look some more tomorrow.

Did you change the keymap.xml? or are you using the default included in XBMC?

I'm using the default. I did some more playing and if I map the direction keys to the step actions in DVD menu you step in the menu video which of course is confusing and means you can't select anything.

I tried adding the direction keys to be Left/Right etc in the keymap.xml under the videomenu (assuming this is the one for the DVD menu) in the XBMC system folder in the hope that it would not do the steps but it does.

Is it fair the say the plugin works like keymap.xml, but since it uses the event server ignores keymap.xml?

I've bailed on having the direction keys at the moment which is kind of annoying, but I can't see a way to do this right now.

If the plugin is using keymap.xml then it might be made to work.

Thanks

My plugin will respect the keymap.xml for the buttons under Remote and Gamepad folders, and any direct actions will bypass the keymap.xml.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to look at the problem yet maybe tonight.

Ah ok, that explains it.

I'm not sure how easily fixable this is so don't kill yourself. I'd be happy to test any modifications you have.

Cheers and thanks for such a great plugin.

I would like to contol my PC running XBMC with my Streamzap PC Remote, I have downloaded the latest version of EventGhost 0.3.7.r851 and while the XBMC pluging starts OK, the Streamzap plugin has an error Could not open driver!, even tho' the Streamzap remote is working Ok, any ideas I have tried re-install, and a number of other things but have not had any success...
