I am updating this plugin I just have to bug test it. but what I have done is I have separated the carrier selection by country. and then by carrier, and then by e-mail gateway.

I am also adding a whole slew of additional carriers to the list and here are the totals

there are 58 countries in the list
with 317 carriers
and a total of 517 e-mail to mms/sms gateways

I will post the updated version later today

Hey,

Given this a go but cannot get it to send a text.

I get an email saying:

Address not found
Your message wasn't delivered to ###########@vodafone.net because the address couldn't be found. Check for typos or unnecessary spaces and try again.

The response from the remote server was:
550 5.1.1 <##########@vodafone.net>: Recipient address rejected: vodafone.net

I guess it is sending to google OK as I'm getting an email ?

What format is required for the phone number ?

Any ideas ?

Cheers

How this works is in the plugin config you will enter the SMTP and port of whatever e-mail server you choose to use. there are settings for using different types of authentications. The information that is factory set in the plugin is to use Googles GMain servers. for this to work you will have to make sure that you have SMTP turned on in your e-mail settings on google's site. and then enter your gmail login information into the plugin. it uses the SMTP server entered to relay a message to an e-mail to sms/mms gateway that the phone carrier has.

the format of the phone number in the US is

123 456 7890
ÔööÔöÇÔö¼ÔöÇÔöÿ ÔööÔöÇÔö¼ÔöÇÔöÿ ÔööÔöÇÔöÇÔö¼ÔöÇÔöÇÔöÿ
area code exchange subscriber

or a 3-3-4 number set

now what I have discovered about vodaphone is this

44##########@vodafone.net

but you have to do this before you can use it.
dial 242 for info. activate via website

I will update the plugin to automatically add the 44 but for the time being manually enter it after you activate via the website.

Thanks for you help, just spoke to vodafone and apparently they have withdrawn SMS gateway service in the UK.

Never mind.

ohhhh that stinks. why would they do that???

there is another option. you can use the google voice plugin. if you have a google voice account. from that you can send a text message from the google voice phone number to your vodaphone number.

Wow, this is pretty awesome. Gave it a shot just now with my own number, and it's unfortunately not working for me. My carrier is Telia (Norwegian), who semi-recently changed their name from NetCom. I tried manually sending a couple of e-mails to [email protected] as well as [email protected]. With the former, nothing at all happened. With the latter, I got an automated reply that boils down to:
550 5.7.1 <[email protected]>... Relaying denied
Can I somehow help you troubleshoot this?

you would need to call Telia and ask them this exact question "How do i access the email to sms gateway?". and you can tell them when you send an e-mail to [email protected] a response of Relaying denied is sent back.

Once you are able to do this manually through your e-mail then we can work out the bits to make it work from the plugin.

I'll get to it. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Will edit this post and PM you when I've spoken to them.

Edit: Alright, I got in touch with them. Unfortunately, they have closed down their SMS gateway. :( Guess this means you should exclude Telia (formerly NetCom) from your plugin.

I know people on Telenor, though. I'll see if their gateway still works and report back.

Edit 2: Getting a "User not found" error with Telenor (########@mobilpost.no). I've left them a message asking if they still have an SMS gateway. Will edit again when I hear back from them.
