Hi Paul,
No problems, first check and read the basics about OwnTracks and why MQTT is used. I think there are good explanations given there. After this, it is time to consider how to link this into EG.

I have installed the
"owntracks" app on my Phone so I could have a look at it.
I have also read the basics of it all (It really
REALLY hurt my head!)
And now I have no idea what to do with it (as in get it to
"tell" my
PC I'm home or away)

Just another suggestion. Don't want to complicate things more, but this is what I have set up:
My router has an option to forward Syslog messages to my PC. I use the "Syslog Server" plugin in EG. When I get home, the phone WIFI connects and an event is generated in EG. There is no Syslog message from my router when the WIFI disconnects.

@Kalia: sure, a ping solution or whatever will work as well but it might be a benefit to have an app like OwnTacks or Btraced, it gives additional features also visible in the phone

I think I got it sorted,
it is working as far as I can tell just need to fine tune it a little.
once I get it
"set" right how would I make it secure ? As it shows my actual address! I don't want people knowing where I live
lol.

Thanks for modifying/updating the plugin. Using your version, I've been able to get Ping to work as a means of checking to see if my IP cameras have gone off line. (It sometimes happens due to heat.) When the Ping fails, I reboot the camera.
