We have "Jump if long press" since ages.
And it even allows the user to cascade the setting, so he can have a short press, a one second press and a 4 second press behaviour with the same button and a completely different setup for another button or another context. Double press was never implemented, simply because not many remotes are able to generate such short timings reliable, but it would be possible to implement it as an action the same way as AutoRepeat and JumpIfLongPress of course.
Same than Short, Long and so on. It's usefull to do something when the remote is not used during a long time and difficult to do inside EG .xml file ...
This I actually haven't understood. What should the user do with all the other HID devices (if the remote is not connected) in this list that he would otherwise later have to do in his XML?
The remote don't generate a zone event. same than the other, it's avoid to made a big "OR" inside .xml file ...
The ATI Remote Wonder II has a similar zone behaviour (you only can see the zone change when the next button is pressed). I decided to send a zone event in advance if this happens. So if the user changes the zone to 2 and presses the play button for example, he first gets a (one shot) ATI.Zone2 event, immediately followed by an enduring ATI.Play event. This way the user can take advantage of context folders for different zones or use them without regarding the zone or only regard the zones in selected contexts on his decision. So he has all flexibility without worrying if he might take the wrong decision on a "Zone event" checkbox.

I am currently thinking of a way to integrate basic HID function in the EG core so other plugins can use these functions and do not need to copy a fair amout of code.
I thought of a way similiar to the serial class so the plugin only has to define a callback which parses the data.
Does this concept work with your plugin?

Thank you very much for a great plugin :)

I'm running it on Vista32 (Home Basic) - it works OK with the built-in Bluetooth stack except (as expected) the power-saving features don't work.

It is possible to install the Widcomm 5.1.0.1100 software on Vista - I found a guide here http://www.dev-hack.com/pafiledb/index. ... =view&id=4 - once you've got this running, the power-saving features then work OK.

You can also put the remote to sleep by holding down the 'PS' (PlayStation) button for 5 seconds or more.

[Update - it also works OK with the Widcomm 5.1.0.4200 software installed]

Hello,

Thanks for this very good update.

Unfortunatly the plugin don't works anymore after EG version 0.3.6.1486

On 0.3.6.1487 the result is :

Code: Select all

on 0.3.7.r918 the result is

Code: Select all

Exception in thread \\?\hid#hid_keyboard#2&1f22840e&0&0000#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}:

The plugin itself is unchanged, it's the changes in EG between 0.3.6.1486 and 0.3.6.1487 cause plugin to fail.

Any advise will be welcome

Thierry.

I'm glad people are obviously using it. I no longer have a PS3, so I won't be able to help out with any further updates.

This plugin works but now it doesnt acknowledge keystrokes but, the log section shows that it is acknowledging button presses on the remote. This is really 1 flakey plugin. From double key presses to no longer functioning.

magao wrote:Updated to 3.0.1 - ripped out the "repeat" events. Thanks for the pointer I needed - with that it became obvious. This version will continue to work with xml files from 2.0.2 and 3.0.0 despite removing the "repeat" config option - I've left a dummy parameter in.

<edit>I should note that the low-power mode will only work if you are using the Widcomm bluetooth stack - it will not work with the default MS stack.</edit>
Where do you look to see if your using Widcomm or MS stack?

in device manager, if your bluetooth radio shows that it's using a microsoft driver, then it's not widcomm.

I asked this on th e xbmc forums thread but I'll ask it here, too.. does anyone know how to get autorepeat working?

if your bluetooth adapter is broadcom chipset, this should install the widcomm 6.x for you

I still have no Sleep / Hibernate
I've installed the Widcomm 5.1.0.1100 Drivers and installed the patches. (to allow sleep command)
I've gone back to V 0.3.6.1486 of eventghost (to accept the following)
I've put in the v3.0.1 of the plugin (which enables the sleep command)

Should this work?

I still see no events in eventghost wth sleep or hibernate, Everything else works but batteries are not holding out long enough

what am i missing? here is a screenshot

I'm using build 1066 with the ps3 plugin version that's built into that.. it says it's version 3.00, but when you go to the add plugin screen and click on ps3 plugin, the info panel on the right says it has the new power saving sniff mode. so I think it must be some newer version. I'm using the script from the OP of this thread.. I added some keys.. I think the power saving is built into the plugin because I haven't had to change batteries yet.. dunno if there's a way to manually initiate sniff mode

3.0.0 does indeed have sniff mode - IIRC I implemented it to automatically go into sniff mode when one of the eventghost events occurs - the one that's either 30 or 60 seconds after no user input.

There's currently no way to manually put the remote into sniff mode, but if you hold down the PS button for 6 seconds it should put it into another power-saving mode (one I couldn't do automatically).

Magao...

1.Should the latest Eventghost work with sniff mode?
2.Should I be seeing an event in the log when the hibernate/sniff mode occurs?
(Am I supposed to be seeing HID.Hibernate?)

I'm masuring the current flow on he remote with a DMM and i've not seen it drop, after any significant wait.

What is supposed to be happening to save power?

Ali

It's been a while (as I said earlier in the thread, I no longer have a PS3) - I've had to go back to the source.

It takes effect on HID.Hibernate (and I just realise it only takes effect on HID.Hibernate - it doesn't bind to the correct event if you change the event prefix). So if you're not seeing HID.Hibernate at all, then there must be some activity from the remote before the hibernate period (which is set in the config). Make sure you're watching all events, press a button on the remote, and then leave it alone completely for a minute or so.

Of course, if you don't happen to have the Widcomm drivers installed, you won't get SNIFF mode even if you do get the HID.Hibernate event.

Hi,

I too have no luck getting the remote to go into power saving mode. No EventGhost events are generated if I leave the remote idle, and the BT icon on the taskbar shows it connected.

This is using the latest EventGhost, with the PS3 plugin that came with it, and Widcomm stack. Also using Windows 7 x64 if that makes any difference. The writer of the PS3 Remote application (http://www.benbarron.com/applications) has said that the way he diables the remote is a hack which does not work in x64 installations.

Hopefully a solution can be found...
