And this, folks, is why we need someone who knows what they're doing in charge.
When people freely volunteer their time to a project like this -- particularly as much as I have -- the work should speak for itself. I'm here to discuss facts and solve problems, zian -- I'm not here to kiss your ass, and I'm
certainly not here to be disrespected for not doing so. You're the one and only person here who has a problem with me. What does that tell you?
I remain steadfast in my position on this matter, but I think Bitmonster had the right idea about putting a time limit on his transition, so I'm going to do the same: September 15th. If zian hasn't fully transferred ownership of all domains and accounts by September 15th, I'll be returning my focus to the places I'm actually appreciated, and there'll be nothing anyone can say to change my mind.
As far as I'm concerned, I've worked in this culture of disrespect for long enough. If that's not going to change, I'm out -- it's as simple as that.

I should also note that, this right here:

- mediaWiki database last backup was on (never)
A full offline backup of all files and databases is now sorted. We can restore if needed.
That's the keys to the kingdom. If any of you are reusing your forum password on other sites, you'd be well advised to update it at those other sites (and not here!) as soon as possible. Not only does somebody who's been here a week now have all of your passwords, so does everyone who's ever broken into the server under zian's reign, which we now know is at least one person (and probably more).

He has helped me personally, and I think from a customer service view point, he is someone I would want to have around helping out. Just my 2 cents.

and in my personal opinion - whatever zain does with the "keys" to EG is his business. he has them for a reason and i am sure he has not stolen them. someone must have given them to him for some reason. and if he has not the time to take care of things on here but has yet to find a person that he feels is the proper person for the job then that is his business as well. I personally would rather him wait if that is the case, it can't hurt. EG has waited this long. lets make sure the right thing is done.
yes i know opinions are like assholes, and every one has one and everyone thinks everyone elses stinks.

Yes, apparently I can do a lot more than I expected, mind you, I never asked.

Although I can assure, you that I have the best of intentions:
- It is a general rule not to reuse passwords, so if you do... DON'T!. And I urge you all to follow
blackwinds advice.
NOW!
- I haven't checked yet but passwords at the server side should be always stored in a one-way hash and not clear in text. So hopefully I don't have them. But I'll check and keep everyone updated.

In any case, whichever way the wind ends up blowing with you, it was still an irresponsible, shameful decision on his part, and it's just the most recent of many.

That's true, but irrelevant for all but the most complex passwords. If you haven't heard of rainbow tables or GPU password crackers, rest assured that the people breaking in have. They'll be hashed, but everyone with a copy of the database has the ability to gain access to your passwords in mere seconds if they so desire. And zian isn't just giving this stuff away to anyone who asks -- he's giving it away to people who
haven't asked. If that doesn't frighten you, folks, it should.

True, only I know.

True again, no reason to trust me! The only thing everyone can ever (and in my opinion
MUST DO) is use
complex passwords and
NEVER reuse them elsewhere.
It would have been exactly the same case if you accepted the keys zian offered to you. But nobody would question because your a long time contributor.
Really starting to regret, speaking up and trying to get things moving again.

I've been raised to interpret if someone says

I don't know how to do it, maybe you do?
I Don't like the way things are going.

Really hope you reconsider your ultimatum.

Good deal dequi,
But for now I would remove the donate button.
I'm not even sure where those donations go.
I just donated $5 to somebody. lol
What I meant by donations above is...
Every very helpful member or plugin developer has their own PayPal button they bring to EG (in posts or signatures or....) and if folks want to donate they donate direct to the dev.
I would remove ALL of those existing PayPal buttons.
For now.
Thanks again.

But how do we then finance hosting and domain name fees? Wasn't that one of the purposes? I remember I donated once to keep the domain & hosting alive. (For personal donation, nobody ever donated anything to me while I had such a pay pal button, regardless of the value the plugin added or time I spent in developing. So I gave up and removed it...)

We only needed donations for hosting etc that first time. Way back during "transition". Once we got Google AdSence here at the forum that income covers all the website expenses. Plus sum.
If you still have a PP donate button handy krambriw try it again if you like.
Maybe if more folks know that they are there and it's an option they will donate to you smart involved helpful coder guys.

Also... The existing EG PP Button here I believe came over with the original handover. They may have been "turned off" with EG.HTML after that.
I also believe those first donations for EG hosting was all done via a topic thread. Into my own PayPal account.
All donation info at that time was posted to that same thread. I can find it if ya'll would like. On a lil device now so wont at this moment.
Make sence?

As donations are not coming to the project, I removed them from all headers and the contributing page in the docs until we get this sorted.
As for a personalized donate button I'am with krambriw on that one. It will leave contributors to the GitHub code in the cold, or those that take the time to write documentation. The ones that work behind the scenes...

Life isn't fair. lol
AdSence brings in over and above. I'll do some math to get exact figures but we could put all (or most) extra AdSence money into a pot for the GitHandsDirtyBehindTheScenesGuysAndGals?
But the personal buttons... Figure it out and try it.
If somebody helped me solve a killer problem I would gladly flip them $10, $15, $20.
Go get (and post) but buttons dudes.
TINY ones. They shouldn't clutter and be a bouncing blinking freaking eyesoar pleading type deal.
Small, subtle, lite and easy.
Figure it out. Try it.
Who is in CHARGE here?
We are. Nobody is.
EVERYBODY is.
