I have one feature request.
It bothers me that when I look at the Event log and display goes off.
I would like either an option in Options: "Screen does not go out when the Event log is viewed" or a button for this purpose at the Event log screen.

Thanks for the reply, my question wasn't very clear i guess. When i click the button (to send a test message to EG) on the home screen of my device it opens terRemote. Is this normal behavior or should it just do the action and keep displaying the home screen of my device?

For my second question i think it would be better to use some kind of push service (i've tried the "pushbullet" plugin but it doesn't work..)

Besides the speech recognition option i have an other suggestion; using google cloud messaging as optional protocol for terRemote. GCM is a 2 way push protocol, it would be usefull to be able to use terRemote inside and outside of your lan. See more information: http://developer.android.com/google/gcm/index.html

OK, a lot to answer ^^. Let's start:

@therealbiglou:
You're right that having these buttons would be a good idea. I haven't had a look at the api, yet, so I don't know how easy it is to implement "custom" buttons. This is the reason why for example, there is not yet a possibility to create custom homescreen widgets.

@Pako:
You should have received the beta version updates automatically when you registered to the google group. Provided that the account you used there matches the one you use for gplay. Currently, there is no beta version so you don't see it in the status page in terRemote.
There will be an action to prevent the screen from locking (and to disable it). I might also put a checkbox in the log options. Thanks for the suggestion.

Is the second problem you described in the "Sun Dec 08, 2013 10:40 pm" post still there? About the slider: I my old Galaxy S lying around here, somewhere. I'll check. Usually terRemote is supposed to work also on Android 2.3.x.

1: it works over no-ip. The communication to EG to is not encrypted but the password is only transmitted as a salted md5-coded string. It's not so easy to crack this but I would not call it impossible. The commands and payloads could always be read from the transmission. This is just how the EG receiver-plugin works. Using http-actions: I see no reason to not use https-addresses but I haven't tried it, yet.

2: There is a workaround for the current NetworkSender-Plugin to change the ip programmatically. Pako and I are working on a terRemote plugin that has this possibility by default. I think that a first version will be online, soon. Additionally to that, receiving push-messages is a nice feature to have. It will certainly be implemented at some point.

3: This is indeed normal but not the supposed way. It is a known bug. Should be easy to fix, I hope. I'll try to fix it in the next version.

Thanks for the response. I've done some more testing with terRemote today and it seems to work pretty smooth. For now it's hooked up to some basic domotica tasks, like switching lights and requesting a snapshot from an ipcam. I'll try to use it for a while to see is it's stable for me.
1: I've forwarded a port and using it with no-ip at the moment. Https might be difficult with certificates?
2: For now I use the Pushbullet plugin (fixed it), works very fast and no dynamic ip issues. Pushbullet can also push images btw!
2b: Using a 2 way push protocol for the communication to and from EG would solve the security/encryption, portforwarding and dynamic ip issues.
3: I've noticed that this happens like 10% of the time, i can press a homescreen shortcut several times just fine, but sometimes it opens the app (the action is run fine btw)

Speech recognition isn't a must have feature indeed but i found it on the EGRemote app and it worked surprisingly good, made me think of all kinds of nice functions for it. You can setup a basic speech command like "all lights on" and say a more natural sentence to the app like: "yo smartphone turn all the lights on yo" and it will run the right command!

This has happened a few times now on my tablet as well. It will suddenly increase width of the slider on page load. I have vertical sliders on all my pages for volume control so right now I just delete the one slider and then copy it back from a different page. So now I wonder if this just a new bug, for I just got the Galaxy S right after the last big update.

I am also experiencing the varying widths of the slider (by device) when imported. Placing a new seekbar does not fix the width.
Was also wondering if there was a way to change the background color of a touchpad

Would it be possible to add functionality to allow Terremote to be the home screen app? I'm upgrading my phone and will be using my current device as a dedicated remote. I would love to have it so hitting home would go to a specific screen on Terremote.

Have you tried "home2 Shortcut" (available on Google play) which allows the user to change how the home button (including single press, long press, double press, and search (home then up)) reacts including starting an application.... As for opening to a specific layout, unselect "show last opened layout on startup" and set the layout you would like to open to default. Now every time you press the home key the default layout will appear.

Actually, I ended up finding an app called Target Home Launcher which acts as a default launcher but just links to another app. The functionality is perfect for what I'm looking for. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

I have been using that app for a long time and it works very well for tablets. Not so much for phones. LOL

I did not know about these launcher apps. They seem to be quite great.

I had some time for development yesterday so I just uploaded a new beta version. It contains a fix for the homescreen shortcut issue as well as the functionality to keep the screen unlocked in the log.

Moreover, there is now the possibility to always keep the screen on while layouts are open. You also can put terRemote atop of the lockscreen so that you don't have to enter your pin or swype the pattern to press terRemote buttons. I found this quite useful, e.g. when watching videos.

Check out the Options -> Screen behavior section for these options.

Other changes are about to come. I'm currently also testing the latest version of the EG plugin so hopefully I can upload that one already this year.

I also wanted to share with you an app I found to enhance using a device as a dedicated Terremote remote. We used a harmony and one of my favorite features was that simply touching the remote would light up the screen and make the most important buttons glow. I wanted to emulate this functionality and found this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... eenofffree

It allows you to wake up your screen with movement. You can even change how sensitive it is. I simply removed any and all security locks/lockscreens and set the screen off to 15 seconds. Now, simply reaching for the remote brings it up and ready for use!

How would you display a variable as text in the remote? Example, I have feed back from my receiver that I use to set my volume slider. I would also like to display that number as a text field.
