Re: Voting - plugins not included in the installation file
I really do not want to impede!jitterjames wrote:In the interest of moving forward without delay, I propose another option:
Create a new repository on sourceforge called EventGhost 2011, or whatever. Then we are not destroying the old one. We can post links between the two projects, and of course we can try to recreate as much of the content from the original as possible.
The current old version at sourceforge is actually a problem for the project in general because if people see this page it is obvious to them that the eventGhost project is dead and abandoned, and so potential new users can be lost.
I have suggested EventGhost to people in the past that have said "oh, but isn't eventGhost dead?"
Does anyone know if it is possible to "rename" a project at sourceforge after it has been created?
But as you can see here:
and here: Removing a project, so even removing the entire project is not easy and require support.SourceForge wrote:# Project Removal:
To view the SourceForge policies regarding removal of projects, visit our Site Documentation for "Removing a project". If you wish to request the removal of your project, please contact the SourceForge.net team by submitting a Support Request.
We have three main options on how to proceed with the repository:
1. Choose GitHub
Advantage: it can immediately start using, here is a functional repository
Disadvantage: only stottle can do builds, but he is not compatible with GitHub
2. Choose SourceForge and to create a new repository
Advantage: can start immediately.
Disadvantage: the project would have to have another name ...
3. Choose SourceForge repository and restore existing repository
Advantage: It will be uninterrupted continuity the "brand" EventGhost, including the date of registration 2005-08-09
Disadvantage: must wait to resume SourceForge.net Shell service
I prefer the third option - to wait for some time.
BTW - there is the possibility of renaming:
PakoSourceForge wrote:Project Registration: Change UNIX Name
Project Names Each project on SourceForge.net has two names. The first is a "descriptive name". It is used on the Project Summary page, project page titles, the search facility, and when project news is referenced on the front page of the site. The second is a "UNIX name", used as a unique identifier for the project; the UNIX name is used to build project-related URLs on the SourceForge.net site, and is used as the subdomain for the web space provided by SourceForge.net to your project.
Choosing a UNIX Name Please observe following:
* Must be unique, unless you want to take over the development of a dormant project
* Must be between 3 and 15 characters in length
* Must be in lower case
* Must begin with a letter
* Can only contain letters (a-z), numbers (0-9), and dashes ("-")
* Must be a valid UNIX username
* Cannot match one of our reserved domains
Please Note Project rename requests are a non-reversible action, and you may only request a project rename operation once every six (6) months. This action will be carried out within fourty-eight (48) hours.
UNIX Name
Please enter the new desired UNIX name for your project.

I agree that [1] is not an option.
I did not realise that [3] was an option if we were willing to wait.
If after some time has passed, [3] is still not possible, then I think we should consider [2].
But I guess there is no rush.

Re: Voting - plugins not included in the installation file
As sourceforge offers git hosting, git and sourceforge is an option too.

Re: Voting - plugins not included in the installation file
Copied the complete SVN from eventghost.org to https://eventghostii.svn.sourceforge.ne ... ntghostii/
Now i'm looking for a way to copy it to git and synchronize between svn and git.

Re: Voting - plugins not included in the installation file
Why isn't it possible to host the SVN (and websvn) on the server instead of sourceforge? Wouldn't that be a 4th option, not constrained by the hacker troubles on sourceforge?

I don't think godaddy officially supports this. It may be possible, but probably only through workarounds and I have no idea how reliable it would be.
edit: but I know about as close to nothing about SVN as one can know, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

James,
My bad. I didn't realize how godaddy worked. We pretty much have full control of the satori-project server, I assume godaddy was the same. I did find this, but that certainly is a workaround.

Re: Voting - plugins not included in the installation file
In any case I like the idea of things being broken up a bit, so access to the project can be broken up between different groups of people. It reduces the chance of someone taking control and keeps it a bit more open sourcey... IMO
We can always forward a subdomain to sourceforge or something like that if that makes it feel more unified.
Meanwhile, I am just waiting for BitMonster to hand over the keys for the forum...

Re: Voting - plugins not included in the installation file
Some time ago (due to the unavailability of Shell services) I requested SourceForge support for a reset of the repository.
I got this response:

Re: Voting - plugins not included in the installation file
Yesterday I performed successfully synchronization of SVN (BTW - it took about 9 hours) !
So now we finally again we have an SVN repository (the original, registered 2005-08-09) with which it makes sense to work on develop.
The URL of SVN is: https://eventghost.svn.sourceforge.net/ ... ventghost/
And to browse it online you can use http://eventghost.svn.sourceforge.net/v ... ventghost/
So now I can go into the deferred work.

I told you svn is slow. This all wouldn't have been a problem with git where everybody has a full copy of the repo.

Re: Voting - plugins not included in the installation file
That's great news Pako. Thanks for your effort on the SVN.
Should we have a link to the official SVN somewhere on the site? Maybe on the Downloads page?
