EventGhost Roadmap: Ambitions and Goals
Re: EventGhost Roadmap: Ambitions and Goals
If there's no dispute, by all means, put your money where your mouth is and "hand it all over" like you said you'd "be glad" to do. Conversely, if you'd prefer to continue to "wait on that", please do let everyone here know why.

Re: EventGhost Roadmap: Ambitions and Goals
Gentlemen, please, try to see what is best for the project. Myself & others have spent so many hours. I really hope that we can focus on what is best for the future of EventGhost, I think that was the real & original intention when Bitmonster decided to hand over. So please, do not make this into a personal dispute.
If I am trusted, please listen to me and exchange whatever is needed for the maintenance,
Kind regards, Walter

So what do you mean about this. Do you agree to step down and let them take over? I cant understand why you do not wantzian wrote:Agreed.blackwind wrote:Thanks, Walter. Very glad to see at least a few voices of reason.
this to happen, its a shame. They are offering their free time to update EG, so EG has a future. If you can do this your self, DO IT.
If not step down and make people who love this project make it happen. I am only a User, but I have seen what have happend to
EG`s forum the last couple of years. There is almost nobody left. And I am soon leaving my self if things doesnt change. Yes I have used
the the donation button, but this was directly to a plugin creator, who did a great job including sonos.
Do you think that you can sit on the horse, while they are doing the work for you? If you already gave this away to somebody, why are you still
head admin on this site? This is just showing me/us what you want!
Sorry for bad english!

zian, you were able to put your trust in me, surely you can extend that trust to someone who contributed that massive amount of time to the project, and is actually moving it forward.

He never had any trust on you. He wants you to do the work for him. So he can still be in control. If i had the skillz, i would not do anything before you get all access and him leaving. If not make him do it him self. Without all of you guys he will sit alone with an empty forum/site and control nothing. Even if i want EG to still be out there. I am begging you to stop all of your work until he is gone.

Re: EventGhost Roadmap: Ambitions and Goals
ahem,
#1, A Leader is someone that delegates work and motivates someone to "grab the bull by the horns".
#2, A Leader is someone that has respects for others around them such in a way they don't want to cause discomfort to those nearby and find appropriate times to discuss things.
#3, A Leader is someone that doesn't waste someones time uselessly.
#4, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE can make someone do something they don't want to. not even a Leader.
I am not on anyone's side here, I simply do not know enough of what is happening to form a judgement. this dispute has been going on for over a year. and i doubt anyone except for zain and blackwind know all the bits.
but from my summation this has a much deeper and more rooted disagreement then just being about the "keys to the kingdom".
And in all honesty no one is stopping any kind of progress. this is an open source project. no one is stopping anyone from releasing a modified version of EG. so i really do not see where the problem is..
it seems as tho it's only about control of a website.........
that is all it is really about...
because it's not about control of development.

Re: EventGhost Roadmap: Ambitions and Goals
This is indeed an open source project, but an open source project is more than the code by itself. It is also about the user community. If the only way forward is to devide that user community by releasing a modified version of EG in my humble opinion it is not the best possible way forward.
Information is already heavily scattered around, plugin developpers must then support different versions or choose one or none. Will users of the modified version get the support here from users of the original version. In the end the user will loose.
For me it is not at all about who is in control of the keys or who wants to be in control of the keys or why they can't get along,
It is about the fact only one person now can renew the hosting and domain accounts that hosts this forum they expire 25/02/2017. If that one person 'expires' before this date, this community is done for, or at least in a lot of trouble. You can get new hosting and you can setup a new forum but many knowledge will be gone. And there will be a lot (well 4) of eventghost domain names pointing the end user in the wrong direction without any means of changing this.
A Leader should act in the best interest of his community, or by definition he is not a leader.
... a body without a head just spasms and dies.

Re: EventGhost Roadmap: Ambitions and Goals
Zian has been a leader for many years now. And what happen to EG when he was the leader? Absolutly nothing. He is the best leader I have ever seen! Lol. He doesnt even know how to respect people who do a great job in their free time. Wow what a leader. Guys move everything what you got to another site and make him sit here and do what he has been doing the last years. NOTHING!

Re: EventGhost Roadmap: Ambitions and Goals
That is true.
Tomorrow at some point i will release a version of EG on my fork of EG on Github.
I am putting it there to hopefully have some people try it out for one. but also maybe the devs of EG will take a look..
Modifications/Updates
Added GUID to all tree items. so you can now call eg.plugins.EventGhost.EnableItem and all the like actions from a python script or command
Added the ability to download and install packages from pypi from either a Python Script, Python Command, Python Shell or from the installation of a plugin using the eg.RegisterPlugin with the keyword installpackage, this can either be a single name, or a tuple of names. to use it from one of the other 3 locations you have to use eg.Utils.Package.Install(packagename). if the package is installed with the RegisterPlugin the package will automatically be uninstalled once the plugin is removed from the tree unless there is another plugin using the package. otherwise you will have to use eg.Utils.Package.Uninstall
and there is also an eg.Utils.Package.Upgrade
Changed the EG GUI to use agw aui. it now allows for a more advanced docking and float. the menu Items got shuffled around a bit the view menu is now 2nd to the last and i moved the python shell into this menu. and the python shell does not open a new window it gets added to the EG UI and if you want to make it it's own window just click the grab bar and pull it away.
also added a viewer for the debugging that functions the same way and when viewing the debugging log that is how it turns on and off debugging. the UI remembers if these items were open so if you restart EG it will open them back up again if they were previously open
the python script editor has been completely redesigned, it now loads it's self as a __builtin__ so you can call up a script or stop a script from anywhere inside of eg. when you make a script it asks for a name upon creation so you are able to access it by using script.scriptname. what is nice about this is you can now pass keyword arguments to a python script and also retrieve anything from inside of the script, the only hitch to that is if you run the script and run it agian the previous data is lost.
the GUI for the python editor has a lot more options. color choices, indenting, folding icons....... it also will open the dialog if there is something wrong with the script when it runs. marking the line where the error is. and there is a traceback log in the editor as well. so if the dialog is open the traceback now prints inside the dialog instead of the main EG gui log.
you can also now use threads inside of the script. with a nice easy to use button. no knowledge of threading needed. there are directions on how to use the threading bits that print in that traceback log when you open the dialog.
you also have the ability to add more than one page of code. for organization. and it till add it to the script.scriptname.extracodename and inside of the script if you want to load that next page you simply do a "from script.scriptname import extracodename" and again this can be used from anywhere inside of EG in this manner
you can also import and export your scripts from a file.
I am still working on the code completion and i think i have found the proper method to build most of the eg commands so maybe in the next couple of days
I also added a dialog when closing EG that will ask you if you want to close the open windows. instead of just blinking at you. it lists all the names of the dialogs that are open.
there are other as well too many to list. but i should have it up by the end of day tomorrow at the latest. that is if i don't go and break something again
I am sure there are bugs in it. so if you do try it don't install it over your existing installation and don't use you live tree. make a backup

Re: EventGhost Roadmap: Ambitions and Goals
I'm not sure if this is really something that end users will benefit from at this stage. It is great that we have a devoted developer eager to improve EG, but, even though it is fully allowed to make a clone, I think it would be better to organize & align the work by creating a requirement definition where new features can be specified. From there, a decision about the content for next version should be taken.Tomorrow at some point i will release a version of EG on my fork of EG on Github.
I would appreciate much more if any missing features or suggested enhancements are aligned & merged with the new beta version 0.5.x. Personally, I am not interested or have time to evaluate two different branches. Until further notice, I will therefore stick to the 0.5.x branch
But I don't wont to kill good initiatives, those should be encouraged, captured and taken well care off

Re: EventGhost Roadmap: Ambitions and Goals
I am not going to put up an installer of EG. and there will be a disclaimer about it being a test version. i am hoping that some of my ideas manage their way into the full release version. and from experience one person coming up with an idea goes no where. so if there is more than one that likes the feature it could be something that gets done. I am not rying to override anyone. but it seems as though unless there is an actual working example of a modification or addition it will not get added. and I would also like to hear feedback as well as fix any bugs that there may be.
I personally feel having the ability to download and install packages from pypi through the eg.RegisterPlugin would greatly widen the functionality of EG and it's plugins while making it much easier for the plugin dev to make plugins. there is a plethora of untapped resources and this has the potential to really open the doors.
and i did the gui because people like bling and flash. for example. if you have 2 cars identical cars. one runs like crap. and has a brand new paint job and looks great, and the other is beat up looking but has all the mechanicals in perfect condition. and they were both for sale. the one with the brand new paint would sell first.
I am using this as an example to state that people like visual changes. and the things under the hood need to be just as good. but the point is if they don't see change they don't think anything has changed. I would like to have working prototypes to show and i wish i was able to find every bug. but it needs to be used for that to happen. and there aren't that many people that know how to build EG so there shouldn't be an issue as far as "2 version" of EG running about. this is more for the developers to take a peek at and suggest changes. as I have stated many times before i am a greenhorn at programming. little over a year now. and I am always trying to learn and improve. so having outside critiquing is a must for me.
