First, thanks for Event Ghost! It was really easy to use to make my old ATI RemoteWonder useful for controlling apps on my TV PC. Unfortunately, my old ATI RemoteWonder sucks (poor signal reception, even from just 8 feet away), as it always has and I'm planning on getting an inexpensive IR remote from NewEgg or some place to replace it.
The problem I'm running into is that pretty much everything they stock now is for Vista, and from reading the comments, they don't just work with XP. That's fine if EventGhost can take the input, but I have no idea how to really judge that, short of buying one and trying it.
So, I'd obviously appreciate any recommendations on specific devices, but I'd also appreciate any pointers on understanding how XP works with remotes. Is there any generic API they work with, short of keyboard and mouse emulation? It seems like there is at least some standard for media controller devices with XP Pro, because things like volume control, mute, play/pause and maybe FF and RW controls on various keyboards seem to work with a variety of apps.
Can I be reasonably confident of getting any Vista remote/receiver combo to work on XP with EventGhost, or is there something else I need to look for?
Thanks!

Tips on Picking an IR Remote for XP?
Re: Tips on Picking an IR Remote for XP?
Hi,
Indeed selecting a good IR system can be tidies, as for making it work with EventGhost, if there is no plugin for it yet, you can use it with the general HID plugin, and if that one doesn't work (not generating any events) just tell the plugin to use "raw data" to generate events.
Have fun.
