This newer Dish Network receiver, vip722k (and maybe some of their other receivers) is able to be viewed on 2 TV's and controlled from two different remotes. The first remote is slandered IR and the second remote is both IR and a UHF signal (to be able to control the receiver from long distances).

I'm trying to figure out a way to control this reciever any way possible, internet through a Dish Account intreface type of thing, maybe an IR blaster, or even some how hacked UHF signal (wouldn't have a clue how to do this).

The receiver also has a broad band connection but I'm not sure if this in/output can also be used to remote control the device. Still checking into it.

If anybody is interested in trying to figure this one out or has some ideas on how one might go about controlling from my PC DVR software (BeyondTV) or EG I'd like to hear some ideas.

I have a WinTV 1600 with the IR blaster and I could teach the UHF some IR codes from the Haupage remote but I think I left the actual RC hand unit for the 1600 up in MI for the winter...that SUCKS!!!

You need a device called TV2IR and you can get them at DishStore.net.

You then address TV2 to UHF address #1 and send the TV2IR the address #1 IR codes, the device will transcode them to UHF #1 and put it on the antenna port.

You will also need a means of transmitting IR, I would suggest the USBUIRT. Using it you can control 2 Vip722/722ks 4 total tuners.

This is what I do with SageTV and my 2x Vip222ks.

Things have changed...

The Dish VIP722 (w/dual view) is now connected to our home network.
Works good.
I am able to control the 722 for the 2nd (or main TV) TV using my iOS devices and Dish's native app.

I can see the Dish on our network (acting as a server?).

But what I would like to do is get rid of the Dish App (and the iOS device too would be nice) and just send commands to the VIP722 over IP using EG.
