Help? can cyberlink USB receiver be used w/other remotes?

I have three cyberlink IR receivers, they look like this: http://wiki.xbmc.org/images/d/d2/CyberlinkRemote.jpg
I only have the receivers, not the remotes. I thought a receiver was a receiver... and that I could capture the IR code in something like eventghost or girder and perform an action.
So far I have tried both the cyberlink plugin and the generic HID, but the log on the left of the window is not showing any signals from the remote when I press buttons, which is how I understand its supposed to work.
