Conceptronic CLLRCMCE: Driver not found!

I've been successfully using EventGhost for about 1 year now with a Conceptronic (CLLRCMCE) remote to control MediaPortal. Yesterday I was messing with EventGhost and decided for some reason to remove the CLLRCMCE plugin and add it again. I can't get it working since.
It keeps asking me to install the CLLRCMCE driver but doing that doesn't help. Clicking Yes actually launches the driver installation wizard and it completes successfully. But right after the installation it will ask me to install the driver again and that goes on into infinity.
What I tried:
- I uninstalled the driver from Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- I deleted the driver installer and let EG download and install it.
- Ran the driver installer myself.
- I installed the "EventGhost WinUSB Add-on" and "USB-Remote-Driver" from http://www.eventghost.net/downloads/ to see if it had any effect.
- Clean EG install and clean xml.
Some more info:
- The driver is in the list of installed programs: "Windows Driver Package - EventGhost Conceptronic CLLRCMCE (01/25/2010 1.0.2.0)"
- I can confirm that the files are placed in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\driver.inf_amd64_neutral_8371a1a2f2e6896f\

- The remote does work, but on the default driver so EventGhost doesn't catch the events and default behavior is not good enough for MediaPortal!
- It's too late for restore point.
