media player 12 play triggering an action

I am a N00B to event ghost but not to computers or home automation. First a little background

I have Media Center pretty much fully controlled by my remote/Eventghost and it works very well.
I am trying to use event ghost to do the following and I must be missing something and I cannot figure out what it is.

Upon pressing PLAY in Media Player I want my Eventghost to fire two serial commands from the Onkyo Serial AV plugin to the serial connection to turn on the Onkyo and select the VCR/DVR input.
:!: When I fire execute the command in event ghost it works fine :!:
but I cannot figure out when I actually PLAY from the media player screen it will not work.
I cannot figure out what I am missing that Event ghost does not see the PLAY when I press play in Media Player.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
