NMS (Notify My Smartphone)

This new plugin combines clients of services NMA and Prowl.
This means that you can simultaneously notify an iPhone as well as an Android device.
Of course this is not a requirement. You can use this plugin, even if you have all the devices of the same type (iPhone or Android).

Very significant help in the development and testing plugin provided me krambriw. Thank you very much!

I was made aware of this plugin when reading the Pushbullet plugin thread. Pako made this plugin (as many of the other very useful Eventghost plugins) and Walter seems to have been very involved in testing and development. No other people have tested this or responded to this topic. I must admit that I also 'overlooked' this before, as I only recently got to using my Android device.

I have been experimenting with the pushbullet plugin and I like it for getting alarms from my motion detectors from Eventghost to my Android tablet.
However, there are quite long lag times between events in Eventghost and notifications appearing on my Android tablet (sometimes up to several minutes).
Can Walter or Pako (or anyone else) comment on the speed of the notifications appearing on Android devices, compared to Pushbullet plugin?

Regards,
Perry

It is difficult.
I can not make a precise comparison.
I use regularly only PushBullet.
I can confirm that the message comes sometimes delayed.
I'm not sure, but my experience says, that the problem is with the Android device (some power saving modes, etc.).
If the device is "fully awake", the message usually comes "immediately".
I think that when you use the NMS (NMA service) that can not be better.

To follow up with what Pako said, the Pushbullet plugin is pretty instantaneous. If you look at your push log on the Pushbullet website itslef, they appear near instant. If it's not displaying on your device immediately, it's probably an issue with the service not running all the time or being governed by the CPU/system.

I use the NMS plugin and a Prowl account with my iPhone. A notification arrives in the phone within a few seconds (typically within 2 seconds) after EG has triggered it.

Thanks for your replies.

The near-instantaneous response that Walter experiences with his Iphone solution I can only match when I let Eventghost send an email to my Blackberry.
Alas, since it is my work-phone, I can not use it as freely as my Android tablet.
When I am connected to my own LAN, I can use networksender, which works fast, but not always reliably.

I will stick with the Pushbullet plugin solution for now and activate the email to Blackberry alarm sending whenever quick response is required.

Walter,

I have switched to Iphone for my work and am free to install applications on it.
Since you seem to be enthusiastic about the Prowl notification app, I would like your input on the reliability of the communication.

I am still using pushbullet and it works OK, but unfortunately the messages I send with pushbullet from my Iphone to the always-on PC with Eventghost are often not received by Eventghost at all.
This is a problem, as this then prevents me from remotely switching off the motion detection alarm configuration I have set up in Eventghost.
This means that, if there is a lot of motion going on in front of the detectors, I receive a flood of alarm notifications/photos on my Iphone.

I hope you can share some of your experience about possibilities, speed and reliability of Prowl in combination with EG and Iphone.

Thanks in advance,

Best regards,
Perry

Hi Perry,
I have been using NMS and Prowl for a long period now and it has been working very well. However, Prowl can only receive events, not send anything from the iPhone to EG.

There are some but very few and rare occasions when a transmission from EG to Prowl has failed

It is very fast I think, I receive events within a few seconds even if the iPhone is only on edge or 3g network

Best regards, Walter

Mm mm, no sending from iPhone to EG possible with Prowl, that is a pity.

Can you think of any alternatives to Pushbullet for sending from iPhone to EG via 3G/Internet?

It is no mystery.
It is a common bug :D .
This bug, however, only appears when attempting to print the message NMA: Unknown API key "%s".
You can download corrected version.
