Hey, so i've been using EG for awhile now and the following problem occurs to me:

Sometimes(randomly it seems) When turning the PC on, EG loads, but it loads the default Example.xml. My own .xml doesn't loads.
Also if it matters, the option "close to system tray" gets unchecked aswell.
This is true bothersome cause I really on EG turning with PC and loading the correct .xml file alot.

Running Windows 7.

I have the same problem.
Does anybody know why this can happen?
Maybe the reason is when the config.py can't be loaded.
In that case it replaces the old config.py.
Is this a possible reason?
I can't imagine that it has to do with read restrictions because the config.py is located in a local folder.

I know that the config.py is being saved every time Eventghost is completely closed. Maybe there is a bug in saving the path to the configuration file.

I can't edit the startup link because I have to manage many users using the tool.
It would be nice to resolve this problem without using the commandline option.

I have the exact same problem, is there a fix for this?

When I exit EG my config file resets every changes I have done!
The problem for me using EGcontrol is that when I try to save before reboot,
it doesnt remember the XML file to save to. So I have to choose file manually!

For me everything works perfect if I have a fresh EG install. But it starts bugging when open my old XML file.
I also get this issue if I try to copy paste folders in my fresh EG from an old XML file.

This is happening to me all the time lately. Well not ALL the time, since it's random, but often enough that I'm on the verge of what will be a protracted re-installation of Windows I'd greatly prefer to avoid... The app also crashes randomly, so I assume it's corrupting the config file when this happens, as all default options are loaded as well. I've tried several times to re-install, even going through the registry and cleaning out any references in between. I've depended on EG for many years for many things, so it's a huge bummer when I have to manually load my config every other boot or so... Win7 x64

From reading the problem description i would bet that there is problem when saving the config file. Can you please start EG with -debug option and watch for errors when closing EG? (see the log file).

you can also run sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt.. this is going to take a while for it to run and is going to slow your computer down a lot so i would recommend doing ti before you go to sleep. then when it is done running you will need to run another command from an elevated command line findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%profilepath%\desktop\sfcdetails.txt

this command will parse the cbs log files in windows and give you the results of that scan. the results will be saved to a file on your desktop called sfcdetails.txt. i would read the file. it is going to tell you what was messed up. and if windows was able to repair it or not. this could give some insight as to what is/was going on. i say was because sfc could have fixed it if there was an issue

are you trying to load a save file from a mapped drive?

in that log every single EventGhost boot shows the same file loading.

did you encounter the problem when you made this log file?

No it's not a mapped drive. It only happens after the computer has been off overnight, like it did the day after that log file was made; running fine, closing fine, but next day I boot up and EG loads the example.xml instead of the default one I set. It must be some Windows issue, because just about as often, my desktop icons are auto-aligned at boot. Can I just set config.py to be read-only, so the file doesn't get changed for whatever reason? It becomes blank when this problem occurs.

it's not an issue with the config file. because when it does this. go and open the config file. do not close EG leave it open. once you close EG this is when the config file gets written. when the example is loaded then go look you will see the path to your save file is correct.

I do not believe that EG is the issue here. I am thinking that EG is having an issue loading the save file because it cannot locate it. so something in the boot order is changing. or the drive is getting mounted after EG starts but it is a random occurrence that this happens. when EG fails to locate the save file it will load the example file otherwise it would simply crash. so It has to load something.

A faulty HDD?

I doubt it. I really think it's some kind of a removable drive that is failing to initialize before EG starts up. that is why i asked about a mapped drive because they can cause the same issue.

It's T: because that's the letter I assigned my data partition, which has been called ToyBox for nearly 20 years; internal HDD, NOT removable. I forgot to run sfc, so tonite I will do that and also a checkdisk pass. If config.py is getting written to when I close EG, then I guess I must have some shutdown problems in Windows or perhaps even disk corruption.

I will move my default file to the C: drive, just to rule out the location.

as i said. when this occurs open the config.py file when EG is open and see what the file is that it wants to load. see if it is the same or if for some reason it is in fact changing it to the example file.


I do have a question tho. do you log in with multiple user accounts? Because the config.py file is keyed to specific users. so User1's Config.py is going to be different then User2's.
