Samsung Smart TV IR Blaster use through EventGhost?

Hi all,

I recently purchased a new Samsung TV (UN40H5201AFXZA), and to my surprise it came with a little IR Blaster (BN96-31644A) that is supposed to connect to the TV through a 3.5" jack to control a set-top box. I would like to instead hook up the IR Blaster to my PC, and use it to automatically turn on/off the TV whenever I hit my hotkeys to enable/disable extending the desktop to the TV.

I've done some fiddling around with plugins in EventGhost but none seem to be able to interface with the blaster (confirmed by looking at it with a camera). In fact, my PC does not seem to be recognizing that anything is being plugged into the audio jack (tried both the headphone and microphone jacks).

Any ideas on how I could get this to work? I'd be more than happy to supply more information if needed.

Who made the Sammy Blaster? What is the tech in the TV that works with that?

Your hooking an IR Blaster to the audio card of your PC. Can your PC work with that at all?
(I don't know but I doubt it can)

You MIGHT be able to snip off that audio jack (or make plug/wires) to connect that blaster to an IRDA type connection on your PC's mobo.

I doubt that will work. Just because it uses a jack as physical connector, does not mean it is compatible with jack-connctors. IR blasters and receivers often use jack connectors as well, and you can use e.g. audio extension cables with them, but they are really different things.

I quickly googled the model, and it seems to be a smart tv. Most likely you can switch it on/off via the network interface. There is a plugin for EventGhost to control a samsung TV via a serial port (not sure if your TV has that one), but there might also be an EventGhost plugin for samsung tv via network... Or it might even work with a network sender plugin...
FWIW, it might even work if your computer sends the monitor off singal to the tv, and some tools, such as this one ( http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/multi_monitor_tool.html ) can do it from commandline, so you can launch it from EventGhost...
