I am trying to get EG (or anything else) to enable my monitors on a Windows 8.1 system after "Turn off the display" power saving and having no luck at all. The only way I've found so far to wake the monitors is to mouse the mouse or press a key.
I have the Windows power settings set to "Turn off the display" after 1 minute (for testing) and "Put the computer to sleep" set to "Never". When the system goes into powersave for the monitors, the monitors sleep and go dark. The control panel on the base on the monitors also go dark in response. When I issue any of the commands I've tried below, the control panel on the monitor lights up but the monitors themselves never turn back on. It's like the computer is exiting powersave but not waking up the screen until something physically moves.
Here is what I've tried:
EG Re-enable monitor action
nircmd monitor on (hangs)
nircmd monitor async_on (doesn't hang but doesn't turn the monitor on)
EG Mouse: Move Relative (move 100x by 100y)
EG Wake on LAN from remote system
Nothing seems to work outside of physically touching a button or moving a mouse. Has anyone gotten something like this to work?
Perhaps someone has an easy answer for you. If not, I have used the "devcon restart" command successfully for a different purpose (resyncing HDMI audio), but it might work for you. I'm just guessing. See this link for a description of the process. The actual command I use (devcon in C: root) is "C:\devcon.exe restart =display *ven_1002*". Note: There is a space after 'restart'. Now, the next problem is that it needs to be run from an elevated command prompt and EG doesn't provide for that directly. See this thread for a workaround. I have used both PsTools and SchTasks.exe successfully.
This might be helpful, I'll give it a shot tonight. I've used devcon in the past for some weird applications and the system that is running EG is remote from the system I'm working with so psexec.exe won't be a problem at all. I'll post back when I get a chance to check it out. Thanks!
I've done some monkeying around with devcon and while it does actually bring my monitors back it's hugely disruptive. Restarting the video cards ("display") yields a bunch of problems. If I'm in a Citrix session is screws that up until I re-connect or re-size the window, and my IRC client crashes, and it takes 10-20 seconds to complete. I'm better off just moving the mouse if this is the solution. Restarting the monitors doesn't appear to have any effect at all.

So I'll throw it back out there... Does anyone have a way to make the "Re-enable monitor" function in EG actually work?
I eventually got something to work, but man is it convoluted and dumb. I'm now firing a command to a Logitech Harmony Hub device which will utilize bluetooth to send a command to the target PC. When the bluetooth command is received then the PC wakes up. I really wish there was a software-only approach to waking monitors but damned if I can find one that works reliably.
