Using NetRemote with EventGhost

Hi,

so I'm planning on moving my HTPC and Amp up into the loft away from the living room. All I'm going to have down there is the TV. The comes the thorny issue of how to control it all. Now I could use IR repeaters I guess, but that doesn't overcome the fact that I still have lots of remotes lying around. I'm in the middle of putting in a whole house audio system and NetRemote is going to control that from a PDA. It would be great if I could use NetRemote to control Vista Media Centre and my amp too.

I knew I could do this using Girder and USB-UIRT, but then I came across the VMC Controller app (http://www.codeplex.com/VmcController). I've tested it out and it works great, and the fact that someone has written a plugin for it to be used from EventGhost is even better. EventGhost looks to be able to do everything that Girder would have done for me - correct me if I'm wrong?

I set about testing it last night using the trial version of NetRemote installed on a test image. EventGhost is installed on the same image. The problem I have is in connecting NetRemote to EventGhost. From what I understand I need to add the Network Event Receiver plugin into EventGhost. I've left it with the default port of 1024 and set an easy password. From the NetRemote side, I think I need to use the Girder plugin and enter the host (localhost), port and password info to connect to EventGhost. Great, except that when I click on Test Connection, NetRemote hangs and eventually I need to end the process to quit it.

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone else have this working?

I'm running Windows XP SP3 on the test image, along with EventGhost 0.3.6.1449 and NetRemote 2.0.5.128.

For Host use 127.0.0.1 and for Mode Girder 3 in Netremote.

Start EG first then Netremote you should see something like "TCP.NRCLIENT.REGISTER ['127.0.0.1', u'30000']"
in EG Log Windows, then you have a working connection to EG.

The test function in Netremote works not correct.

Hi,

that almost seems to work perfectly, but I get a couple of errors. When starting NetRemote I get the following error message:

The girder plugin can connect to a server, but the server does not appear to be utilizing the Girder 3 protocol. Please double check that the correct version of Girder has been configured in the plugin properties.

Then in the EventGhost log I get the following error message:

error: uncaptured python exception, closing channel <pluginImport.NetworkReceiver.Server_Handler connected 127.0.0.1:2230 at 0x1e1b5f8> (<class 'socket.error'>:(10053, 'Software caused connection abort') [asynchat.pyc|handle_read|89] [asyncore.pyc|recv|342])

Finally I get the confirmation that it's connected:

TCP.NRCLIENT.REGISTER ['127.0.0.1', u'30000']

Is this all expected behaviour? Seems a bit odd.

I get this message only when I start Netremote and after Netremote EG.
I have a installation running EG on Windows XP System and Netremote on a PPC with Windows Mobile 2003 connected over WLAN, for me it works stable.

Its not for Windows Mobile....but I have this Native iPhone and iPod touch application completed if anyone is interested in me releasing it to the AppStore? It is instantaneous response time to EventGhost and emulates the MCE remote so all your current EG macros and setup will just work with this.
