The intermittent transmit hangs happen to me too. Doubtful it has anything to do with drive spin up, though, as I saw this during IR transmit testing; so I was actively using the system at the time. I'm not running the latest EG or plug-in version, though--plan on doing that update soon.

Before I call this an IR receiver problem and try and return mine for a new one, I thought I'd see if anyone else was seeing what I am. Yes. A standard MCE IR transceiver can be used as a generic universal remote with EG. I know that the HP brand works. You might have to search a little if you want to try a different brand.
