Long time listener, first time caller... I'm considering revamping my HTPC setup to use a Sony NSZ-GS7 Google TV box as the main interface instead of the HTPC itself. It can be cumbersome and buggy at times right now switching between Plex for ripped movies and downloaded/recorded TV shows, and Windows Media Center for live TV, DVD/Blu-Ray playback (via TotalMedia Theatre), and NetFlix, and a browser window for Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, and whatever. Anyways...I'm trying to do all of the due diligence I can before making any purchases. I'd like to actually run the HTPC through the NSZ-GS7 and make use of it's pass through, PIP, and remote. The NSZ-GS7 has an IR blaster for controlling a settop box and a receiver, but I don't believe that it has codes to emulate an MCE remote. So here's the question (FINALLY): can I use EventGhost and the MCERemote plugin, plus a cheap USB MCE IR receiver, to handle and assign actions for ANY IR code, or just those from an actual MCE remote? In other words, can I just pick an arbitrary device for the NSZ-GS7 to output the IR codes for, handle them in EventGost, and trigger the appropriate action?
As always, thanks in advance.

EventGhost and Sony NSZ-GS7 remote?
Re: EventGhost and Sony NSZ-GS7 remote?
Yes. A standard MCE IR transceiver can be used as a generic universal remote with EG. I know that the HP brand works. You might have to search a little if you want to try a different brand.

Great...thanks for confirming this. Is this the HP receiver that you are referring to?kkl wrote:Yes. A standard MCE IR transceiver can be used as a generic universal remote with EG. I know that the HP brand works. You might have to search a little if you want to try a different brand.
