Its time for a major upgrade of this plugin. A lot of features have been added since last time it was published, mainly due to the fact that OpenNetHomeServer has been impressingly extended. OpenNetHomeServer is another popular software for home automation. All credits to Stefan Stromberg, the author. One very interesting feature is the built-in decoding possibility of received RF-signals (like X10, UPM, Nexa, etc)

Major features since last:
- support for RollerTrol events and commands
- support for more 'Lamps', both events and commands
- time out for lost sensors now configurable (100-7200 seconds)
- monitoring of disconnection/connection of controllers
- support for sending commands to control lamps defined in OpenNetHome
- support for Oregon Temp/Hum sensors and FineOffset Temp sensors
- improved decoding to capture only completed messages
- improved the event filtering

Once you have connected your home made receiver to the mic, you can start NetHomeServer. There is a HomeManager.bat file for this purpose (I created a shortcut to it in my startup folder)

Open the RFReceiver and configure it properly. The settings in the picture works fine for me but you might have to adjust them. Click "Update" to save settings.

When you have selected the correct sound device and the settings are OK, you can try to see if it captures RF events correctly. Press some buttons on a RF remote and click "Refresh". You should now see a changed value for the counter "Received"

In EG, the following view is shown when you add the plugin

Here you configure the ip and port number to connect with NetHomeServer. Default port is 8005

Then it is time to add an action for an event logger

In this view you define the name of the logger and some optional settings if you need them

Some words about receiving RF signals. Some transmission devices sends rather weak signals. This is a link to a page that describes how a passive antenna can improve the result. I have successfully used it. The wire length shall be 34.5 cm for 433 MHz

I cant get it working. I dont think it is the plugin that is the problem becouse when i use the:

I cant get any of the nexa signals inn. If i use the raw decoder i can get it.

Have i done something wrong with the config or the mod you think?

I have tryed using lots of diferent Flank swings.

Here you can se an example of the signal i get when i press 1 to on on the nexa remote.

I also tried pronto. For each press i get 4 or 5 "events".

I did not now you used the analyzer, here is a more updated version, please replace the installed with this one

Check the following important Windows settings:
- volume mic input maximum level
- no microphone boost enabled

I'm not using the 600 Hz low pass filter, try first without it

The settings for the UPM is a little bit different then for the Pyramid I have

Start with the following settings

If you don't get nexa messages to appear, try to increase "Burst lenght comp" in steps of 5 us (I have 35 but Stefan recommends 0 for the UPM). Next to experiment is the "Flank Swing" and then the other 2 "Flank" parametres

I just used the analyzer to check that i had the UPM working.

When i inserted your file i can recieve signals fine from remote and the motion detector. (Not from the tellsick but that is not important).
Using these settings:

But i cant sem to get it working still. Is the "Burst lenght comp." in the analyzer the same as "Pulse With Modification" in net home?

Where you get the pyramid in eventghost i dont get anything. Also i dont get any recieved in the nethome.

Am i missing something?

Yes, this is the same, in your case is should be 15 it seems

Also the rest of the values should be the same as for the analyzer

And, most likely, change the SourceNumber to 0 (and it might work)

When it is working correctly it should look similar to the following

As for the plug-in in EG, you are very, very close. The plug-in has successfully connected to NetHomeServer. Now you only have to add an action of type NetHomeServer and this will then generate the events when they are received NetHomeServer

Please make a new picture of the analysers result (wave pattern) now that it works. I'm interested to see your signal quality

Hi

If i only chose the Nexa decoders i cant get the sample up(atleast dont know how to). Can get raw message:

Was this what you wanted? If not please explane how to get the picture you want.

At first i couldent get it to work.
So i desided to deleted everything and downloaded nethomeserver_844 again inserted your files. At first i couldent get it to work, Tried many diferent things. Changed it back to how it was in the start and sudently it worked. I find it weary spoky as i am sure it is just the same as it was 15 minutes before. But it at least is working.

I tried both Source 0, 1 and 2, they are all working now but after restart i have to chose 0 for it to work but can then change to 1 and 2 and it still recieves the signals. (Veary strange)

Everytime i close down nethome it loses its settings. Is there a way to save them so that i can restart it?

Is there a forum for nethome somplace? I cant find anything.

Hello Jostein, no problem, I'm happy that it seems to work now!

Yes this was the picture I asked for (and you can only make them with raw, sorry didn't say that). I think your (raw) signal looks fine now

To save the settings in NetHome you need to edit the xml file demo.xml. Here you can type in the settings

I also fell that the application was tricky to get working at first but once that is done, it has been working very reliable and stable in fact

Regarding the sound device, maybe this is in fact the same device? Anyway I would type in the source that seems to be most reliable, maybe just pick 0 (the default)

There are some settings in the action view but I guess they are self-explanatory

I can see that you alsow have purchased the RFXCOM. Other than having to make the UPM mod (or in your case pyramid). What have you found is the diference and witch is the best/most reliable reciver.

Regarding RF receivers I think they are rather equal from actual 433 MHz RFreceiver circuit point of view. The good thing with RFXCOM is
- very good coverage (maybe due to better antenna?)
- the prepared (BNC) connection and included antenna
- the built-in support for various protocols
- handshaking possibility (to avoid collisions) with the transmitter if you buy them in a pair
- power supply via USB
- professional built
Disadvantages
- the receiver is full, cannot add more protocols
- is not supporting UPM, only Oregon

Advantages with a modified pyramid/UPM
- cheaper
- with NetHomeServer and Analysator it is possible to add more protocol for new devices since this is handled in the PC software
- supports UPM, not Oregon
Disadvantages
- more "to do yourself" like if you plan to add better antenna, external power supply etc
- can be more noise sensitive (using mic input is sensitive)

In my case I'm now running both the Pyramid with NetHome (because I need UPM) and RFXCOM in parallel but it works really good

I was only wondering if you now if the UPM Rain and windmeter works with the plugin.

I was mostly thinking on the wind that you can se under "Reservdelar" 50-8364.
Do you think that it would work without having to buy the whole set? Use my existing reciever that i modifyed.

Hello Jostein,

I believe it will work fine. It is supported by the NetHomeServer and I just capture all events with the plugin for eg. If we should need to add/change something in the plugin to support a specific data structure, I will do it.

I just hope the transmission power is enough

An unknown neighbour in my area has a wind meter from Oregon and I get that info for free (but with the rfxcom). It is however weather dependent it seems (some days I get no data at all) and I believe it is at least 500 metres away

Hi,

Just found and tried this amazing solution! Looks very promising, but I'm not quite there yet.

I modded an UPM thermometer and followed all the instructions in this thread.

Using the analyzer, it works as it should, witn Nexa and UPM signals properly decoded.

However, in the HomeServer application, there is no activity detected; Sent and Received remain at 0 after Refresh.

In EG, the plugin starts and connects OK, but the logger thread terminates immediately.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Last try before bed, and all of a sudden it works!!!
No changes to any values or anything, just a restart of the HomeServer and EG and the events started showing up in the log! Great stuff!

I have ordered one of the wind sensors in Jostein's post. It should arrive in a few days.

Walter, it would be great if you could add support also for the RFTransmitter in the plugin. Since NetHomeServer now supports Pronto codes, that would make it possible to send Pronto codes by RF from EG. (I have been asking the guys at Telldus to implement Pronto support in the Tellstick, but there hasn't been any progress).

I feel really stupid asking, but how do I get hold of the temperature value in an action? After an UPM event, I want to check if the temperature is above a certain value. Having problems with the Python syntax...
