Lutron Homeworks - telnet connection

I'm working on 3 plugins (onkyo 875, DTV HR20 and the Lutron Homeworks processor).

To communicate w/ the Lutron processor I need to telnet in over the network to send and receive commands.

What existing plugin would be the best "starting block" for me to base my plugin off of.
