Waking Up ION 330 from sleep using USB-UIRT?

Post by Silly Burrito »

I just found this program a few days ago, and this is very nice. I have a question, and even with searching the forums, I'm still a bit confused.

I'm trying to set up my ION 330 using Vista Home Premium SP2. EventGhost is version 0.3.7.r1194, and I'm using the USB-UIRT.

So far, I can easily set my PC to sleep using the built in Sleep macro. However, when I try to wake it up, nothing I've done works yet. If I press the space bar on the attached USB keyboard, it will wake up. But, if I set up Eventghost to press a space bar, it doesn't work. I've tried the Wake-On-Lan using my own MAC address, but that didn't work. I've tried using different codes just in case, but it's not working.

Supposedly, I should be able to wake this up, but I'm not figuring something out. I can see when I press the buttons, the USB-UIRT is receiving the codes, but not waking up the system.

Any ideas and all help is much appreciated. Thank you!

The problem is that EG isn't running when the PC is asleep, so there's no way for it to send any commands. Some devices are kept "alive" with enough power to respond to certain events. This is true of the USB connection your keyboard is attached to. I've got an MCE remote, and it can wake the PC. I'm not sure if the USB-UIRT can or not.

I know this isn't an answer, but I thought it might help in your searching.

Good luck!

Yeah, I was thinking that too, but wasn't sure if it still recognized it somehow.

I just found out that USB-UIRT should be able to flash a Wake-On-LAN code using LRNHelper (http://www.usbuirt.com/lrnhelper_0_0_5.zip) I tried flashing a code that I had programmed for quitting, and that didn't work. In fact, Eventghost now reports it as the Wake On LAN event. I checked my BIOS and Wake To LAN was turned off. D'oh! But, I turned it back on, saved, and rebooted. Still nothing. The search continues.

Thanks!

Silly Burrito

EventGhost doesn't provide the function to program the flash on the USB-UIRT,
so you will have to user Girder download Girder 5 Trial here: http://www.promixis.com/
then follow my attached guide.

No dice, sorry. What pulled up in Girder resembled the LRNHelper interface, but even with relearning the codes, it still didn't work. I'll keep searching!

Silly Burrito

Have you checked your BIOS to see if it supports USB wake from S3?

Also look at this tool MCE Standby Tool

Yes, I've checked, and as far as I can tell, it does (or at least the setting in the BIOS should work).

I have not seen the MCE Standby Tool, but I will definitely give that a try. Thank you!

I had contaced the USB-UIRT support, and they sent me a link to older Vista drivers. (www.usbuirt.com/USBUIRT_Vista_v20204.zip), but that didn't seem to work at first. However, the MCE Standby Tool that scat recommended seems to have done the trick! Now, I'll try to use EventGhost and the two together, but at least I finally got it to wake up. Thank you everyone who helped! I appreciate it!

Great to hear you have it sorted out Silly Burrito.

I can't help but to think that sounds like just the sort of thing that would be useful in the wiki if any of you guys have some spare time to write about it.
