Remote Jr. - iPhone/iPod Touch Client for EventGhost

Post by Pratik »

http://www.remotejr.com/pc/

It works with standard Network Event Receiver plugin.

If anyone needs a free promotion code, email me at:
[email protected]
( the promotion codes work only for accounts registered in US iTunes store )

Remote Jr. also doubles as a remote for Mac.
On a Mac, it works like an Apple Remote.

Pratik,
Nice.

Any thought as to future features?

I'd like to see the ability to autogenerate buttons/sliders/etc for specific EG events/macros chosen by the user.

Example:
Turn on Media Center
All Off
Espresso Machine on
...etc
setup... XBMC, W7MC for DVR & Live OTA TV, JRMC for multi-zone audio, EG, MiCasaVerde Vera3, USB-UIRT IR receiver, Harmony remote, 5.2 home theater system

The plan was to start simple and clean. Then add whatever functionality you guys need.

Keep the ideas coming in. We will build it :)

Hi !

I maybe would be willing to pay for that app but there should be some sort of trial version or something. Right now, I don┬┤t even know what the app looks like (except for the same screenshot with different colour ipods) or what features it supports on a PC. So I would be buying something without knowing what it does exactly or how the interfaces look like.

Bye!

Agreed.

I would suggest you beta this app for a while before asking for money. How well will it work? Is it faster than the web server plugin, etc.

That being said, I'm grateful you're designing this app.

Since RemoteJr uses the same NetworkReceiver plugin code that EventPhone uses I can guarantee it is faster than the web server plugin since it does not have to HTTP Request Response round trips. It is an instant feedback to EG just like if you pressed a button on a real IR remote.

I would love to offer trial versions but the App store's sales model does not allow trial versions.
An App is either a free app or a paid app.
I am hoping that giving you guys promotion codes may help in some ways.

Like the person from Melloware pointed out, Socket based communications are a lot quicker than Web based.
Remote Jr. keeps connections between iPhone and your computer open. Events from the iPhone/iPod touch are instantly delivered to the computer.

While the slower, web application implementation does work, advance functionality like two way feedback, touch gestures, in air controls (using the accelerometer in iPhone/iPod touch), are only possible if using a dedicated App on iPhone/iPod touch. I am already working on getting Remote View into our EventGhost/PC implementation.

I am most interested in knowing what features you guys need.
What would you like to see in our next release?

Hi Pratik,

If I understood correctly, promotion codes won┬┤t work for non US customers ? I wrote you about a promotion code but did not get an answer but I am not in the US.

Strange. I did send you the promotion code. Ill resend the email.
The codes are supposed to work only in US iTunes store; you can always give it a try.

Hi Pratik,

thanks, got it now. yeah, I don┬┤t see any way to use the code in the I-Tunes Store so I guess it does not work here. Too bad ...

An Itunes Promotion code may only work in the country it is given out in. I am a US Developer so I can only give promotion codes to US AppStore customers. They don't work in any other country's AppStore.

Remote Jr. on Windows now works just like on a Mac.
And it keeps its EventGhost integration.

Existing users can download Remote Helper (free windows application) from our website:
http://www.remotejr.com/pc/download.aspx

There is also a demo video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xfIpM7AXVE
(Similar on PC)

I guess the next step is to provide a way to create custom layouts with custom UI elements (buttons, sliders...) within Remote Jr. which you can use in EventGhost.
Anything else you guys would like to add ?
