Keyboard stop working in windows

Post by fenrisdw »

Hello all.
I think that this can be a really noob question, but I can┬┤t find the answer in any place.

I just bought a IR remote USB to use with XBMC. Some buttons of this remote need to be mapped like keys on the keyboard. But when I map this keys to work with XBMC, the keys stop working in other programs...
Ex.: ESC is mapped to action of go back to previous menu in XBMC. But in windows, this key stop working... I need to close eventghost so the keys get back to normal...

Is there anyway to configure Eventghost to map the keys ONLY in a specific app (in this example, only in XBMC) ???

Thanks and excuse for the terrible english!

Most people have program specific folders in EventGhost for their macros. One for each program / keyboard emulation mode etc.

Usually you toggle between the different parts of the config tree using the 'Enable Exclusive' action. This action simultaneously enables the selected folder and disables any other folders in the same level as the selected one. So in effect it toggles between parts of the config.

Now, to trigger the switch between parts of config you can use a button on the remote(obviously), the Task.Activated/Task.Deactivated events (load the Task Create/Switch Events plugin for this), or anything really that you can think of. For example you could have a macro that is run when any button on your remote is pressed, that detects what window is foremost, and activates the part of your config that you need, and then continues.

Theres lots of discussion on this subject already, please use the forum search feature to find some threads for better instructions.

PS. Did you configure EventGhost to emulate keypresses? If it was a standard feature of your remote/driver (some HID device??) then EventGhost may block the keypress from doing it's default action when you assign it to a macro in EG.

I bit of too much work... but I will try....

I tried, but can┬┤t find... My english is terrible... so this make all the things hard to find :-) But I┬┤ll keep looking.

that┬┤s the problem... Some commands on XBMC (like "previous menu") don┬┤t work in my remote... but this command work with the keypress "Backspace" on the keyboard... so I configure a button in the remote to "call" that keypress (Using EventGhost)... and now, in other programs, the backspace stop working....
What I understand from your explanation is that I need to use a Macro to detect if XBMC is the foremost window. If positive, when the button is pressed call the backspace. But If I press the backspace key in windows, for example, work like a normally backspace, and do not try do go to previous menu in XBMC. Is that correct?

Excuse the terrible english :-)

Are you using the action window->emulate keystrokes? If not, that is what you should be using. That shouldn't stop the OS from responding to an emulated key.

There's also a Keyboard plugin, which allows you to re-map a key so that EG responds to it instead of the OS. This is NOT what you want, but sounds like it is what you are using.

If you switch to the window->emulate keystrokes, you should get the desired effect without a ton of work.
