Getting built-in IR receiver to work

Hi, I'm having a REALLY hard time trying to make this work. I've tried several software and this one looks like the only one still with an active community. I searched on the forums, but I couldn't find the answer.

I'm trying to use mu TV remote (Sony RM-YD023) on my notebook (Dell Studio 1535). It's not an IrDA port, it's a simple IR receiver. I know it's possible to use a remote, because my friend has a Dell Remote (that I couldn't find to buy anywhere near my home).

The problem is, looks like no program can find or access the port. WinLirc only uses COMx, and EventGhost also can't find (or simple does not have the right plugin) my receiver. On the Device Manager Window, it says it's a "ITECIR InfraRed Receiver (EC)".

How can I make this work? Or, where can I find the righ plug-in? Thanks.

Have you tried using the Generic HID plugin?

Oh, thank you very much! It didn't work yesterday because I didn't know how to use, so today I tried all devices listed, and then it worked!

Is there something I should post here to help other people with the same problem in the future?

Well, in general It's good to know that sometimes keyboards and remotes can show up as more than one HID device so you may beed to add a HID plugin instance for each one. In these cases you may need to use the prefix option in the HID plugin(s) to make sure they don't generate identical events. (that can happen, depending on the remote/keyboard, don't know if it's an issue with this particular IR receiver/remote though).

No, everything is working fine here. I only had to use the HID plugin with the right configuration, and from there on it was piece of cake.

I have also a "ITECIR InfraRed Receiver (EC)" in my Notebook (Clevo).
Can you give a hint how you get it to run , because the Device isn't even enlisted under "Generic HID" Plugin

Dekatar, you just have to select the HID plugin. It indeed doesn't have the ITECIR device listed, but it'll work ok. Just select any of the availabe configurations, use the remote and see if the event appear on the event list. If it doesn't, try other config of the list.

Because in my "Generic HID-Plugin"-Window , there is nothing like that:

Now you got me. Mine shows the available devices. Now, or your receiver is broken, disabled, or it's a issue with the plugin. I'd try to plug another HID device, like a USB mouse, or a joystick. If it don't show up at the available devices list, I bet it's a plugin problem. Now, I'm using the r1194 version, and it works fine.

Hm,
I think my Windows is messed up , because the IR Controller works under Linux/Lirc.
Did you have under Device Manager -> System Devices also a Consumer IR Device Listed ?

Yes, I have this device listed there, but mine doesn't have this "warning" icon. Looks like the problem is your OS indeed.

I got it

Just removed both things via Device Manager (complete) , reboot and reinstall the the newest Dell Driver for it (via inf file)

Hi. I've got a Dell as well but it's a Studio XPS 16. When I go to Device Manager I can see 'ITECIR InfraRed Receiver (EC)'. I've uninstalled Win 7 updated driver and installed a Dell one as I found on many websites this one should work. When I open EventGhost and add Generic HID I can choose from 5 devices. I've tried each of them with different prefix but none of them has been logged. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong... Maybe it's a stupid question but do I need to have special remote control or any infrared remote should be logged in some way?

Yeah, I'm having the same problem since I installed Win7. I tried a lot of stuff, and nothing seemed to work. If someone manages to make this device work under Win7, please help us.
