EventGhost + USB-UIRT + Windows 7 MC

So I'm finally getting around to setting this up. I know USB-UIRT is working because the log shows the signals being sent. The problem is that nothing happens. All I have in EventGhost...

1. MCE Plugin
2. USB-UIRT Plugin

There is nothing else. Am I supposed to add more to get this going? I would think if EventGhost is receiving the commands that it would just work but no luck so far. This is what shows up in my log...

When you ask for help you should post your hardware + remote, apps you are using, and how you are trying to use it.

if it is a remote that is already coded in the plug-ins it will work. Otherwise you need to assign the IR by draging the IR commands from the log to the action in the plug-in you want to use.

It sounds like you didn't assign start to anything. You need to create the desired actions (what you want start to actually do), then drag the event to the macro to link them.

Ok I'll have a look. I guess the assumption was that adding those plugins were enough and that it would pre-configured to recognize MCE remote buttons. Seemed like a pretty safe assumption

I got it to open Media Center. So now the question is - I have to actually set this up for every button I intend to use in MCE? What are the plug ins for then? At least for the Media Center remote. What I have...

This implies I shouldn't have to do anything further than add the MCE remote plugin but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I also went through the Documentation and Wiki - there really isn't a whole lot there that is helpful to be honest. The Wiki mostly covers using custom drivers for XP. The short manual was a little helpful in describing the different items that can be added but other than that there really isn't a whole lot to read.

With that said, it doesn't seem like it's that complicated to set up. But I'm curious to know what purpose the MCE plugin serves if it doesn't actually have everything pre configured

You can sink of one plug in as a event source (press key) and the mce plugin as a sink. The EG core allows you specify the flow. Since EG supports a bunch of remotes and even more programs there would be only a very few combinations that could be preconfigured. It would also bind some plugins together which technically don't have any connection.
There was once the idea of users sharing their configurations but that didn't get started for some reason.

Do you have your Harmony programmed to act as an MCE remote?

If you do, then using the MCE plugin should recognize the IR commands and act upon them. You can tell if it recognizes them since on in the log you will see USB_UIRT.MCE.<command> ... if it does not you will see other seemingly random commands.

If you see the commands in the log properly then there is an issue between EG & your app. Try something simple... like mapping an IR command to a keyboard command... like the Start menu - see if that works. If it does not, reinstall EG. If that does not work, try an older version of EG (you might have hit some strange bug).

I do have it set as a MCE remote. The commands show up properly in EventGhost. For example, this showed up in the logs...

But nothing happened. Setting it manually to open Media Center using the same command works though.

Not really. For people to want to use the MCE plugin, they either need to have a non-MCE remote and have it control the program or they have an MCE remote and they disable the OS handling of IR codes. Either way, EG doesn't know which IR codes to associate with which action.

Look at it this way. EG is able to associate a pretty limitless set of event with a pretty limitless set of actions (consider all the plugins for programs, home automation, etc). EG let's the user associate whatever they want. Lot's of flexibility, but you need to do a one-time set up.

I know, EG could make a pretty good initial guess. But it isn't built that way.

I finally was able to get my system to properly wake / sleep using my remote + eventghost + usb-uirt so I'm pretty happy at the moment
