Emprex MCE remote acts as keyboard (EG doesn't pick it)

Post by guyom »

Hi,
First of all, thanks for taking an interest and sorry for my english :)

So today i build a new PC to have a dual screen setup with XBMC on Windows 7 x64:
- dvi: pc monitor
- hdmi: TV

I use this RF remote: http://www.emprex.com/01_news_02.php?newsid=98
Now, i've managed to get xbmc boot on the 2nd screen and have the remote do the basic things because xbmc has basic support for arrows and play/stop...

But i want to go further and have all buttons mapped with the green button to start XBMC instead of MCE.

The problem is that after launching EG, the button presses don't get pick in left column and instead the remote is seen as the same as a keyboard.
Here is an example:
Image

If i use the up & down arrow of the remote, no action gets listed on the left column, and cursor moves up and down in the right column, just like using the keyboard would. :x
For example pressing the donw arrow on remote would move to the next line "Plugin : Microsoft mce remote"

I have a long list of things to do and discover before i can have a "finalized" setup but this problem is just preventing me from following any of the tutorials out there!

I really hope someone has an answer...

Just a small note: if you want EG to pick up keys on remote that act as keyboard keys, enable the Keyboard Plugin. Then you will have an event logged/registered in EG when pressing any key on your keyboard as well as those "keyboard" keys on your remote.

Ups, sorry, I have confused the topics. The link above isn't that helpful for you.

Your remote is currently not supported by EventGhost. You can try the Keyboard plugin, but this will seldom work perfectly with such kind of remote.

What would be needed is a WinUSB plugin for this remote, but someone who owns such a remote and has the needed skills has to write it first.

Thanks for your help.

I read your first post yesterday but as my hardware ID in device manager was different, i left it alone.

The problem is that even if through trial and error i managed to find other button presses that work natively in xbmc, this remote just can't be used in dual screen setup... Since every time someone else uses the mouse back on the PC, the remote loses control, it's just a pain for everyday use.

Guess i'll try to use my xbox dvd IR dongle with the EG plugin and a usb extension cord :P and if that still doesn't work find another RF remote already suported.

I just added support for the Emprex 3009 RF Remote to Intelliremote.

I think if you want to use this from EventGhost this is a normal HID Remote so just use the Generic HID Plugin.
