Speedlink SL6399 - Missing Buttons.

Good Day All,

I've just built myself an HTPC and got myself a cheap remote (see subject title). I did a bit of searching on the net and found EventGhost to be the best app for my needs, especially since I am using XBMC as the frontend and you guys have a plugin for XBMC's commands . At first I had some troubles with this, but found this post:

Which resolved some of my issues (in short i had to load the keyboard plugin as well as the generic HID plugin).

My problem is that all the buttons that are not mapped to keyboard functions donÔÇÖt show up in EventGhost, ergo cannot use them. The main one being the 'play' button on the remote, as well as the 'pause' and a few others. Its seems the generic plug in doesn't recognise my remote, would I be correct in assuming that?

Anyone got some suggestions?

Edit: Okay after unplugging and plugging back in the remote most buttons work, except the volume +/- and the mute. Also the 'msn' button swaps the up/down/left/right to controll the mouse :S. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I had the same problem. After several hours of trial & error and unsuccessful Google searches, I found the solution described here.

It's rather simple, if you know some facts:

• The Speedlink remote receiver SL6399 represents itself in Windows XP like 5 single devices
• 4 USB-to-HID devices (I assume this represents 4 different button groups on the remote)
  and
• 1 Keyboard-Numpad for the numerical buttons 0 to 9

So what happens when using the SL6399 with EventGhost & Windows XP for the first time ?
- You have to activate the "Generic HID PLugin" in EventGhost
- then select one of the HID-Drivers named like "USB-to-HID Remote"
- then try to press some buttons on the SL-6399 remote

THE FIRST RESULT:
- NO EVENTS are logged in the EventGhost log window
- Open a notepad window and you will see, that the numerical buttons 0..9 will do their job (even better then EventGhost)
- But the red LED on the remote receiver "blinks" on all remote buttons. So what's going on here ???

THE SOLUTION:
=> First you have to activate the "Generic HID Plugin" in EventGhost for 4 times !
=> For each Plugin you have to select one of the four HID-Drivers named like "USB-to-HID Remote"
( I did this top down, but I assume you can also select the first driver for all EG-Plugin entries)
=> In addition, activate the "Keyboard Plugin" (this is for the buttons 0..9)

At this point you should see 5 plugins under the EventGhost "Autostart" item

Now you can press several keys on the remote an they should be logged in the EG log window.
GREAT !!! GREAT !!! GREAT !!! GREAT !!! ( It was 3:00 o'clock in the morning when this happend first)

This works for me on WinXP Prof. SP3. Only the four coloured buttons at the bottom of the remote don't work.

I hope this will help some other HTPC users of the Speedlink Remote SL-6399 !
