Mobile Air Mouse - anyone using it?

I have been doing a ton of research looking for a native iPhone app that I can use as a complete front-end for my fairly complicated Home Theater and Automation setup without spending a ton of cash.

Right now I'm using custom web pages I've complied but looking to move to something a bit more seamless.

If anyone has used the 2.0 version of Mobile Air Mouse (http://www.mobileairmouse.com) please post your experience with it. It looks like it can do a lot more than most other apps with minimal setup and only $3!

Hi!

I have it, and it┬┤s a very good app in many ways.
But for me (and I guess for you also) it has 2 really big disadvantages.

1. It doesnt send the Key┬┤s in a way that Eventghost can recive them (or perhaps just in a way that I havent been able to make Eventghost to recive them).

2. It doesent work that well with XBMC either...

I have it, but rarely use it, as I've gone with snatch server instead. It has the same air mouse style interface and more.

Really wish I could figure out how to use it with eventghost instead of it's native server interface.

Snatch questions...

1) Does it act as a regular keyboard (even for logins)?
... I'd like to remove my wireless KB.

2) With the custom buttons, can you have it launch other iPhone apps (or Safari web site) directly from the button?
... I'd like to to launch a home automation intranet site and XBMC Remote iPhone app

3) With custom buttons, can you send custom HTTP commands?
... sending EventGhost or other apps on the network (like HA apps) commands directly

1) Yes, You can bring up the standard Iphone keyboard within the snatch "Keys" interface. If you hit the "keys" button once, it pulls up your custom GUI, if twice, the iphone keyboard.

2) I beleive you could do this from the "Launch menu". I need to play around with it more myself, as I want to use this with my DJ software. Currently I'm using it with Windows Media center only.


3)Uncertain. I'd be interested in knowing this myself. I haven't had the time to try and customize it myself. This is something I want to do.

So if I boot the system and need to login I can use the Snatch keyboard? You positive... the reason I ask is this is very important it means that snatch acts as a driver, not just a user mode app.

No, if you're not logged into your system, you can't use the keyboard to enter your login details for the OS. The service is launched once you are logged in. I don't know of any software that would allow this. It would be a serious security flaw I feel.

You can use it for other logins, just not for windows login.

only as much as using a keyboard would be a 'security flaw'

I'd say more so, as you could do it automated externally in the method you desire. At least with the keyboard, you have to be right there at the machine, leaving your finger prints. If it were scriptable, or automated, you'd be able to sabatage the machine without being there, at the time of your choosing. I think that's a much larger flaw. I really don't think windows would allow this at the logon screen from any software. You either have to be there to manually log in, or configure the system to auto login like I do, so you don't get that login screen.

If you are the only person using this PC, then I would recommend using the auto login method, and completely bypass the login screen all together.

I'm not sure what your expertise on this is but if done appropriately it is fine. It is no less secure than having your system with bluetooth, 2.4GHz wireless keyboard, or having an internet connection.

I also agree that it's all about how good (and secure) the implementation is made. Think about all these remote control software's available (pcAnyWhere, VNC, etc etc), they are basically a remote keyboard/mouse/display and they do allow you to log on to Windows from remote (they all run a service)

Can eventghost do this?
AirMouse and scratch are simply, client-server applications. Until you actually get logged in, and launch the server, they are useless. If you remain logged in, it may be possible to do this, but unless the service is running, what good is it to you.

Is it possible to launch services at the login window, prior to entering a users windows profile?

It takes a specific type of service to run and interact with the login screen... not just any app running can do so.
