Hello everybody. I am very new to EventGhost, and have been reading through the forums. I have come acorss EventGhost out of a general interest in home automation. I played with Hal for a while.. but refuse to pay for a program like that. I also fooled around with MrHouse a bit. I know nothing of coding, but am very willing/able/and interested in learning. I have a few questions, however, because I understand learning a specific "brand" of coding (python for EG) can be an undertaking by itself. I really want to research everything before I throw myself into one over another.
For as over-rated as Hal is... it is very simple to set up macros and such, without any knowledge of coding. How complex is it to get a UI that seemless? Hal did leave a lot to be desired as far as customization goes.. but all the parts were there that I would use. I just can't justify spending that money on a program, when with a little work I could build the same thing for myself. Has anybody done work with the eg UI? I would love to be able to incorporate something like the HalAssistant (fun little program) into an eg ui to control the system. Any suggestions on someplace, or site that can really get me started? Am I overshooting the power of eg with these goals? I like the idea of VR in this system as well.. how well can eg incorporate that?
I really feel like eg is as capable of what I want to do as I am of writing the code. Thanks for any and all input, and I look forward to reading your responses.
