Emulating MCE remote using hotkeys

Post by smithmal »

Total newb here so forgive if this is a stupid question.

I have a MCE remote and am using Vista Media Center. After screwing around with the MCE remote for a couple weeks, I noted it works fantastic inside MCE, but once I navigate to Hulu/YouTube and need mouse functionality (activating fullscreen, clicking on links, etc), the MCE remote comes up short.

I was hoping I could program a keyboard + trackball/joystick type remote (like the Lenovo HTPC remote or the EFO HTPC remote) into triggering MCE specific button events. I'd like EG to convert IR events from the MCE remote into keystroke hotkeys which when pressed by the keyboard section of the afore mentioned remotes would trigger MCE remote specific actions (green button, back, play, stop, etc.)

Would EG help me to accomplish this?
