Block Windows Media Center Start Up

Post by tomhanks »

Hi!

I am using the Phillips SRM 5100 RC on windows 7, and so far is working normally, I am using the Generic HID plugin to make it work, but there are some comands on the RC that call Windows Media Center.

Is there a way to block it to start up?

Thanks!

Check the Task Manager; you'll probably see a task named "ehTray.exe". End Task on that; that's the task that listens for the Media Center keys to start it.

It autoruns on boot; if this fixes your issue and you want to disable it permanently, and you're comfortable poking around in the Registry, go to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

...and delete the "ehTray" entry.

(Do NOT do this unless you're comfortable poking around in the Registry; it's possible to do things that will effectively brick your system!)

Is it possible to start and stop ehTray on demand or does it require a reboot each time?

I use MCE, but I also use XBMC and I would like to keep MCE from starting up only when XBMC is active so that I can map the green button, epg, livetv, etc. for use with XBMC... yet still have them work when I'm not running XBMC.

Hi,
I think the easiest way to deactivate MCE is to use the policy editor.
Type at Windows start "gpedit.msc", go to Computer configuration, Administrative Tasks (or so, sorry I#m using the german version), Windows components, Windows media center. There you have to activate the police.

Someone should write a plugin using WinUSB driver for the 0.4 version
