Comcast remote?

I am trying to get very simple commands from my comcast remote (arrow keys, backspace, esc) for use with Boxee.

I bought this cheapo remote with usb dongle from amazon:

Can I get these to work together with eventghost?

What code do I program into the comcast remote to assign the PC to the AUX button?

I'm new to all of this, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did you have any luck in getting your Comcast remote to work with the IR receiver you got on Amazon. I ask because I got the same remote/IR receiver and also want to get my Comcast remote to work with the IR receiver. I followed the link provided above and think that I correctly followed the instructions provided (i.e. install the special driver and add the appropriate PY and PYC files to the plugins folder) but I can not get the IR reciever to recognize the Comcast remote.

Perhaps it is not possible, but I thought I would ask in case you got it working.

I tried pretty hard but had no success. As part of my effort, I used one of those USB snooper programs to see what information is being passed from the IR receiver to the PC via USB and found that the info is being passed when using the remote that came with the IR receiver but no information is passed when using the Comcast remote. Based upon this, I concluded one of the following is possible:

1) The IR signal from the Comcast remote is not compatible with the IR receiver due to hardware design. If this is the case, there is no software/configuration solution possible since the PC (eventghost) is not receiving any information via USB from the IR reciever to act on.

2) I didn't interpret the USB snooper program correctly and failed to detect that the Comcast remote info is in fact being passed by the IR receiver to the PC via USB. If this is the case, there may still be a software/configuration solution possible, but it is beyond my skills to figure it out and I have given up trying.

3) A special driver has to be installed for this IR receiver so that it can send the infomation from the Comcast remote to the PC via USB. If this is the case, there is still hope, but I can not find mention of any such driver during my on-line searches on this subject and have given up trying.

If somone has any info or advice on this, it would be appreciated as I really would like to use my comcast remote with eventghost.

So I checked out the link at the beginning of this e-mail and I guess I must be missing something.

I have this remote/IR Receiver:

I can get EG to acknowledge signals sent from this remote to the IR Receiver. The next step is getting the receiver to recognize the Comcast remote. Is there anything anyone can do to help out?

I am trying to use the Comcast remote to control my HTPC. EG will allow me to do that, so long as I can get the receiver to work, right?

Man, I can't believe this is such an uncommon question. I would've thought that it'd be easy with this program. Oh well.

Have you tried putting your comcast remote into a different mode, setting it up for some fake device (like an onkyo reciever) and using that IR. It could be that the IR signal you are passing it is specific to comcast, and you just need to use a different IR range.
